ConnectLife Birth Tissue Technician in Williamsville, New York

Following the miracle of life, birth tissue (placenta and umbilical cord) can become a priceless gift with the potential to aid in healing after various types of surgical procedures. While moms cherish the miracle of their new baby, transplant recipients are able to cherish the miracle of healing through the generous decision of the mom to donate her birth tissues.

We are seeking a Birth Tissue Technician to join our expanding Birth Tissue program!

Travel is required.

Status:

Full time, Non-exempt

Schedule:

Must be flexible to accommodate deliveries. Position will begin 5:30am-2:00pm for training and will move to a swing shift of 11:00am-7:30pm. Some weekends will be required.

Pay:

$21.63 per hour

Job Summary

Responsible for all recovery related activities for Birth Tissue donation. Accountable for suitability determination of donor, aseptic surgical tissue acquisitions, packaging, shipping, and completion of the donor record as well as assuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and AATB standards.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Associate degree or higher in healthcare related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Customer service experience required.

  • One year of experience in healthcare/medical field, or eye/tissue banking experience preferred.

  • Experience working in a sterile field preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology and/or medical diagnosis, medical record review required.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills required, including communicating with diverse individuals.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, data entry, and electronic medical record review required.

  • Must be adaptable to change, detail oriented, and highly organized with the ability to think critically and multi-task while maintaining focus and accuracy through interruptions.

  • Must be able to remain professional in making decisions and handling confidential information.

  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment strongly preferred.

  • Must be self-motivated, reliable, and have a passion for donation.

  • Must have a valid NYS Drivers license and reliable transportation.

  • Must have professional appearance and demeanor.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform birth tissue collection activities from acquisition and packaging through shipping.

  • Perform a review of all available donor records (DRAI, Medical chart, etc.) and a physical assessment of the donor in order to determine the suitability of the donor for collection.

  • Collect all required/necessary data concerning authorized donors from all sources available (medical records, nursing staff, physicians, etc.), and complete all case related paperwork.

  • Complete Authorized Consent and Donor Risk Assessment Interview in person, when necessary.

  • Maintain flexibility in order to meet the demands and obligations of the birth tissue acquisition schedule.

  • Assist in the overall program development, partner education, and other program related tasks, as needed.

  • Ensure compliance with AATB, State, Federal, and ConnectLife standards for birth tissue acquisition.

  • Secure quality blood samples for serological testing.

  • Attend all required meetings and complete all required trainings in a timely manner.
