What will you be doing?

Reporting to the Educational Supports Manager, our Special Education Coach will work with the therapy team including therapists, certificated teachers and assigned educational assistants in the BrightPath childcare centre’s they are assigned. As required, they will support BrightPath staff in understanding the needs of the special education children in their class.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates an understanding of the various needs and challenges of the children within our program.

  • Effectively supports all staff as they support the children in their care.

  • Teaches relevant skills to help staff best meet the needs of the children in the program.

  • Provides direct instruction of our children to model and demonstrate various skills and techniques.

  • Demonstrates to educational assistants how to complete paperwork and follows up to ensure it is completed in the required manner as per organizational policies.

  • Supports children who are experiencing challenges in their classroom and shares strategies and techniques to help with understanding behaviours and triggers.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, collaborate with coworkers, and interact with colleagues in a professional manner.

  • Ability to connect with families and make them feel a part of the team working with the children

  • Models an effective understanding and respect for diversity and inclusion.

  • Additional tasks as assigned by the educational supports manager.

Requirements:

  • Early Childhood Education - Level 2 or 3 Certification OR Undergraduate Degree in Ed./Equivalent

  • 3 to 5 years experience working with special education children.

  • Demonstrates confidentiality as related to the job.

  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.

  • Ability to read and write in English.

  • Access to a reliable vehicle and a driver’s license.

  • Current Standard First Aid and Child CPR.
