AppleTree focuses exclusively on Preschool and Pre-K education with a mission of closing the achievement gap before students get to kindergarten. We provide free, full-day public charter school programming for three- and four-year-olds in 12 locations across Washington, DC, employing our innovative and award-winning instructional model, called Every Child Ready (ECR). This instructional model provides educators with tools and resources for What to Teach, How to Teach and How to Measure Success. Our instructional model is also used with partners across the nation. We continuously test and improve this model through feedback from AppleTree educators, partners, and other stakeholders to ensure that children are learning and exploring through play and appropriate instruction.

Position Summary

AppleTree Early Learning Public Charter School is seeking a motivated master special educator in the position of Special Education Instructional Coach to support and coach teachers in effective teaching practices for students with diverse learning needs, including those with Individualized Education Plans.

AppleTree implements the Every Child Ready instructional model within a coaching framework. The Special Education Instructional Coach will work directly and collaboratively with special education and general education teachers to make appropriate decisions about curriculum, assessment, instruction, and data in an effort to increase quality teacher practices and the outcomes for students with disabilities.

This is an on-site position based in Washington, DC.

What youll do

Supports Effective Teacher Instruction and Practice:

  • Teach, model, and facilitate research-based best practices for diverse learners

  • Assist with linking individual student IEP goals to the Every Child Ready Curriculum

  • Provide coaching to Special Education Teachers during pull-out and push-in support sessions using coaching tools along the ECR scope and sequence protocols, which include support for classroom structure, curriculum, climate and management, instruction, and parent engagement

  • Collaborate with teachers and school leaders to identify the instructional needs of special education students, set learning goals and targets, and problem-solve with teachers to develop best practices for continuous academic growth

  • Engage in consultation to support special education referrals when appropriate

  • Develop and provide professional development opportunities for special education and general education teachers on topics identified in collaboration with the Director of Student Support Services and Professional Development Manager

``` - Monitor special education students growth as it pertains to the coaching plans

  • Evaluate instructional effectiveness, documents and share modifications to instructional approaches based on assessment data, reflection, and feedback

  • Collaborate with special education teams to ensure IEP goals are being implemented in the general education classroom

Coordinate a Multi-Tiered System of Support

  • Plan, organize, and develop districtwide multi-tiered systems of support, including working collaboratively across departments to create a districtwide strategic plan for MTSS in Tiers I, II, and III under all domains

Collect, Analyze, and Model the use of Data to Drive Instruction:

  • Collect, analyze, and create coaching plans for special education teachers based on observation and achievement data

  • Model and assist Special Education Teachers with the collection and analysis of student data to drive instruction

Implement Professional Development

  • Collaborate with school administrators, Special Education Manager, and Director of Student Support Services to ensure that all teachers support the needs of diverse learners

  • Implement ongoing in-class coaching and workshops for assigned special education teachers and clas rooms needing support for special education students.

  • Provide various and diverse professional development activities (brown-bag sessions, video, virtual, trainings) based on the needs of general education and special education teachers

What were looking for

  • Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Special Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field (Masters degree preferred)

  • Experience with coaching or facilitating learning for adults is preferred

  • At least five years of successful professional teaching experience

  • A demonstrated extensive knowledge of modifications and accommodations for students with disabilities and extensive knowledge of differentiating instruction

  • Individuals who possess advanced knowledge of special education laws and regulations and demonstrate mastery as a teacher

  • People who exemplify and model their ability to support meaningful student academic and social-emotional growth and exemplary classroom management practices

  • Candidates who demonstrate leadership experience, organizational skills, technological proficiencies and communication abilities as a teacher model

  • A solution-focused individual with a collaborative work style is a must
