GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

The Scribe is responsible for assisting students during a testing situation where a student's responses to test questions must be recorded by another person. Hours/frequency may change but will take place Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:30am-4:30pm. Scribing services are offered on an as needed basis by request from the student.

SPECIFIC RESPONSABILITIES:

Utilize careful listening skills to accurately hear and record (written or typed) - without alteration - student responses to notes and information reviewed during coursework classes as well as multiple choice, essay, short answer, scantron or other types of test questions.

Confirm student response by reading aloud the student's response to the student, without altering the response in any way.

Maintain objectivity and not assist a student in their response. Only record student responses exactly as they are provided.

Maintain test and student confidentiality.

Coordinate dates/times for scribing to take place with the student using GCC email

Work with the course instructor or test proctor to understand the instructor's expectations, ensure the exam is returned to the instructor after the student takes the exam.

Other duties may be assigned.

Job Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Associate's Degree required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Experience:

Minimum one-year experience working with students in an educational setting.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ability to assist students by scribing coursework & exams.

Ability to write exactly what a student states without altering words/content.

The successful candidate will have the ability to establish and maintain positive learning environments for students and collaborative relationships with colleagues and is mindful of and develops accessibility solutions that can accommodate all individuals to use GCC facilities without barriers, both digitally and physically.

Additional Information:

SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a part-time, year-round position. Position will be on a per diem basis and position is located at the Wyoming County, Warsaw Campus Center. Hours/frequency may change but will take place Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:30am-4:30pm. Position is compensated at a rate of $16.91/hour.
