Job Description

ESG Operations, an Inframark Company, is currently seeking a wastewater treatment operator to join our team responsible for the treatment of water and wastewater in Vidalia, GA. We are looking for candidates with a valid Wastewater Operators license in Georgia but will consider college graduates with a degree in chemistry, biology, or environmental science as well as candidates with relevant experience.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Collect samples and perform tests such as MLSS, pH, or DO; analyze results; and make process control changes based on results.

  • Calibrate benchtop and field meters to include pH, dissolved oxygen, ORP, ammonia, and gas detectors, and take meter readings periodically.

  • Document readings, test results, equipment adjustments, and data entry into a computer database for record maintenance and to produce periodic and special reports for designated regulatory agencies.

  • Monitor and observe the treatment process for offensive matter; inspect equipment and monitor operating conditions, meters, and gauges to determine load requirements and detect malfunctions.

  • Clean clarifiers and other basins

  • Ensure the plant operates as efficiently as possible while maintaining effluent discharge within permit limits set by the regulatory agency.

  • Attend safety classes, reinforce and comply with company safety policies

  • Work harmoniously with peers, supervisors, and the public, and comply with company policies.

Qualifications

Requires a high school diploma or GED. Prefer the equivalent of one year of college or specialized vocational training in chemistry, wastewater treatment, or a closely related field. Wastewater treatment operations experience and minimum certification are preferred. If not certified, you must obtain certification within one year of employment. Must have a valid state driver’s license and meet minimum driving standards.

Knowledge of:

  • Techniques, principles and practices of professional wastewater treatment plant operations

  • Techniques, principles and practices of laboratory analysis

  • Safety practices, procedures and equipment used

Skill in:

  • Handling or using machines, tools, equipment, or work aids involving moderate latitude for judgment regarding the attainment of a standard or in selecting appropriate items such as pumps, mixers, blowers, or laboratory equipment.

Ability to:

  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions

  • Prepare routine records and logs

  • Perform mathematical computations

  • Visually discern color variations

  • Work emergency duty during non-scheduled work hours

Physical requirements

This position requires frequent standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing. The employee must be able to use their hands to operate and manipulate tools and equipment. This position requires very heavy physical exertion, including the ability to lift over 50 pounds and exert over 100 pounds of force regularly. The employee must be willing to work non-standard and overtime hours as required. The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, and depth perception.
