General Laborer - Construction

Job Summary:

The general laborer in construction performs various physical tasks to aid the progress of construction projects. This role requires physical stamina, strength, and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment under the supervision of skilled tradespeople, site managers, and other construction professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Site Preparation:

  • Clearing and preparing construction sites by removing debris, materials, and obstructions.

  • Setting up and taking down temporary structures, such as scaffolding and barriers.

  • Digging trenches, holes, and foundations as required.

  • Material Handling:

  • Loading and unloading construction materials from trucks.

  • Distributing materials to the appropriate locations on-site.

  • Storing and organizing materials and tools.

  • Equipment Operation:

  • Operating hand and power tools, such as jackhammers, drills, and saws.

  • Operating light machinery, such as forklifts, backhoes, and skid steers, if certified.

  • Assistance to Skilled Workers:

  • Assisting carpenters, masons, electricians, plumbers, and other tradespeople with their tasks.

  • Mixing and pouring concrete, assisting in masonry work, and framing structures.

  • Holding and securing materials during installation and assembly.

  • Site Maintenance:

  • Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness on the construction site.

  • Ensuring all safety regulations and practices are followed.

  • Performing regular equipment checks and basic maintenance tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs or more) and perform strenuous physical labor.

  • Stamina to perform repetitive tasks and work in varying weather conditions.

  • Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity.

  • Experience and Skills:

  • Previous experience in construction or a similar labor-intensive field is preferred but not required.

  • Basic knowledge of construction tools and equipment.

  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
