Pacific Lutheran University Associate Director for Campus Life Engagement in Tacoma, Washington

Work Schedule:

Full-time; 12-month position; Monday -- Friday, 8am-5pm with opportunities for remote and flexible work schedules. Some evenings and weekends required. Must be available to work occasional weekends, nights, and holidays either scheduled or on an on-call basis.

General Description:

The Associate Director for Campus Life Engagement is an integral member of the Campus Life team and, as a part of the Coordinating Team, plays a key role in developing and realizing the vision and mission of Campus Life as it contributes to the university mission at Pacific Lutheran University.

 

The Associate Director provides direct leadership for the student experience through the recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of three Community Directors, two with a residential focus and one with a focus on commuters and student leaders. The Associate Director reports to the Director for Campus Life Engagement.

 

The Associate Director provides leadership, support and accountability for the University's Clubs & Organizations program and procedures and for the training, development, evaluation and recognition of a broad array of Campus Life student leaders and employees.

 

Campus Life integrates the traditional work of Student Engagement, Commuter Services, and Residential Life to create a more cohesive, intentional, and holistic student experience while enhancing student learning, engagement and success at 

PLU. Campus Life is situated within the Student Life Division. Through shared departmental leadership, vision and work, the Campus Life department enhances student learning, engagement and success at 

PLU.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Leadership for Campus Life

- - Provide direct supervision, leadership, vision, and support for three professional Community Director staff members through weekly contact meetings and ongoing interactions. - Select, train, supervise, and evaluate a diverse staff of Community Directors in coordination with the Associate Director for Campus Life Operations. - Co-Lead the Campus Life Student Leadership Selection and Training Committees in partnership with the Associate Director for Campus Life Operations. - Serve as a member of the Campus Life Coordinating Team.

 

 

Engagement

  • Lead Campus Life in supporting student Clubs & Organizations, in part, through direction and support of the Community Director for Lutes Commute &  ARENA.
  • Design and implement procedures for the recognition, training, support and accountability of student Clubs & Organizations and their advisors.
  • Provide leadership and Campus Life framework for training, development, evaluation and recognition of diverse Campus Life student staff members and leaders, including: Campus Life Coordinators, New Student Orientation Guides, Resident Assistants, Commuter Advocates, and PLUS100 TA's.
  • Support commuter student engagement in the  PLU experience through direction and support of the Community Director for Lutes Commute &  ARENA.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of the Learning Community curriculum for Campus Life.
  • Assist with editing and maintaining departmental websites and online hyperlinks/forms.

     

New Student Orientation

In collaboration with the Director for Campus Life Engagement, design, implement, and assess a university-wide new student orientation, to include a comprehensive series of programs (First Year, Transfer, International, and Family).
