SUNY Upstate Medical University Registered Nurse (RN) in Syracuse, New York

Position Overview

Following established procedures, prepare exam rooms and patients for physician or physician’s assistant’s examination. Assist with procedures as requested.

Note: Although each RN may be assigned to a specific physician, all incumbents should be prepared to act as backup for each other as needed.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing care to patients for the Department of OB/GYN.

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care needs in the practice.

  • Manage telephone communications with patients, providers, staff, insurance companies, and other outside entities

  • Triage patient calls and perform other clinical duties

  • Check in of patients,

  • Take vital signs,

  • Administer injections,

  • Assist clinician with exams,

  • Conduct prescription calls,

  • Arrange for patient testing,

  • Obtain authorizations and referrals for patient's insurance,

  • Assist with patient education,

  • Maintain medical charts,

  • Provide backup to other staff as needed

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Education, Training and Previous Experience Requirements

  • Current New York State RN License/registration required

  • Triage Experience Highly Preferred

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, multi-disciplinary environment,

  • Current CPR certification

    Knowledge and Skills Needed to Perform Effectively in the Position

  • Ability to interact compassionately with a diverse group of patients.

  • Excellent communications skills including written and verbal.

  • Good organizational skills with the ability to multi-task

  • Good time management skills

  • Ability to operate computer equipment sufficiently enough to complete job tasks.

  • Ability to learn and apply software necessary to accurately complete job tasks, including EPIC.

    Job Related Physical Abilities an Individual Needs in Order to Perform the Job in a Satisfactory Manner

    Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend, and stoop. Must be able to speak and hear sufficient to communicate with patients and others. Ability to view a monitor/screen and enter data. Ability to physically assist patients as needed.
