SUNY Upstate Medical University Clerical Specialist II in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

The Clerical Specialist II will provide clerical support in ambulatory care setting at Upstate's Outpatient Clinics. Greet patients and complete patient check in registration process, check patient demographic information, check out patients, answer phones, schedule and reschedule appointments. Build and maintain provider schedules and templates, Assist in preparation of monthly reporting. Determine whether or not pre-authorizations are needed and obtain necessary supportive information. Obtain appropriate insurance authorizations when needed. Obtain additional records, reports, radiological reports, etc. as requested by patient, providers, or staff. Verify insurance coverage and requirements, forward to appropriate staff, and discuss with patients. Process work queues, In Basket messages. Use of EPIC, Word and Outlook. Assist with mail distribution, faxes and scanning. Accepts assignments to other areas as needed. Take on other tasks as defined and requested by leadership.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates Degree and two years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required in a health care setting.

Excellent written/oral communication skills required.

Computer skills and keyboarding are necessary.

Ability to maintain good public relations with patients, visitors, co-workers and other individuals.

Ability to multitasks in a busy fast pace

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in patient financial/insurance services preferred

Epic and rehabilitation (PT/OT/SLP) experience preferred

Knowledge of medical terminology, familiarity with medical coding.

Knowledge of medical authorizations, billing requirements and the ability to recognize insurance fraud/abuse is strongly preferred.

Monday - Friday, Days
