Google Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer in Sunnyvale, California

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Technology, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 5 years of metal stamping experience including tool design and construction, debug, cost, and qualification processes.

  • 5 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience developing reliable, effective technical relationships with contract manufacturers.

  • Experience with Product Data Management systems (e.g., Agile, Windchill) and 3D CAD modeling tools, such as SolidWorks or Pro Engineer.

  • Understanding of precision sheet metal fabrication processes (e.g., NC punching, press brake forming, hardware insertion processes), hard tooling fabrication processes (e.g., metal stamping), and plastic injection molding processes.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Expertise with electro-mechanical assembly.

As a Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer in the Supply Chain Organization, you will join the team responsible for providing manufacturing support and guidance for Google’s packaging and electro-mechanical products. You are a valued partner to the Product Development team, identifying and qualifying advanced manufacturing techniques, and Design for Excellence (DFX) feedback.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $111,000-$163,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Lead rack integration line development and qualification at contract manufacturing partners.

  • Perform Design for Manufacturability/Assembly and Design for Cost analyses for sheet metal (soft tool), plastic injection molded, metal stamped (hard tool), and electro-mechanical parts and assemblies, effectively communicating required design and material changes to contract manufacturers and engineering.

  • Identify and qualify contract manufacturers/vendors for precision sheet metal, high-volume metal stamping, plastic injection molding, tooling, and level 3 electro-mechanical assemblies.

  • Provide comprehensive mechanical manufacturing engineering support to global manufacturing partners. Resolve manufacturing and field challenges by escalating design, manufacturing, and product test issues when appropriate.

  • Use a Product Data Management system to create and maintain Bills of Materials, Approved Vendor Lists, and Engineering Change Notifications/Orders in support of Google products. Drive process improvements that reduce process cycle times/cost, while maintaining quality.
