Job Information

Linnaeus Out of Hours Veterinary Surgeon in Stockton-on-Tees, United Kingdom

The successful applicant will join an established team of diplomates and residency-trained surgeons and clinicians, with support from a large discipline-specific nursing team. They will provide Out of Hours (OOH) cover for our referral in-patients and support local primary care practices that use Wear Referrals to provide their out-of-hours cover. They will be part of a large, dedicated OOH team working with 5 OOH Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs), a student nurse or Patient Care Assistant (PCA) each shift, with Intern backshift support over the weekends, and our referral surgeons and clinicians are on call in addition for both in-person and telephone support.

This role would suit an experienced primary care vet looking to gain experience in a large 24/7 referral hospital and exposure to a complex and varied caseload. An Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) certificate would be advantageous and we would fully support the successful candidate in undertaking a certificate or further ECC studies.

We encourage an evidence-based, multi-disciplinary approach, supporting a process of continuous learning and a collegiate atmosphere. We have an active internship programme and are expanding our residency programmes. Our extensive clinical caseload provides an interesting variety of cases and supports ongoing clinical research that is actively encouraged and supported. This role is to cover weekend days and/or night shifts on a full-time or part-time basis.

Wear Referrals (part of Linnaeus Veterinary Limited, owned by Mars) is a multi-disciplinary, specialist veterinary referral hospital in the North East of England, close to the historic university city of Durham, the thriving city of Newcastle, and set between the northeast coast and the Pennines. The hospital is also within easy reach of the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District and Scotland.
