Completion of an approved histology program and clinical histology internship or completion of an accredited two year laboratory technician training program in a vocational school or junior college. Experience: Six months experience in a clinical laboratory setting. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of clinical laboratory analysis, quality control, and laboratory instrumentation Knowledge of the principles of processing specimens for observation Knowledge of medical terminology, glassware, and chemical reagents Knowledge in each of the following areas: Histology and Cytology Knowledge of sterile procedures in the handling of infectious materials Ability to learn the operation of laboratory testing equipment. Ability to use a computer terminal Ability to recognize abnormal test results Knowledge of Medical Center policies and procedures Knowledge of applicable safety procedures Knowledge of the operation of a lab computer system Knowledge of instrumentation used in the laboratory Knowledge of specific tests used at the Medical Center lab in the area to which assigned Ability to recognize instrument malfunctions Ability to recognize abnormal test results and apply quality control procedures to determine their accuracy Ability to teach technical aspect of medical laboratory procedures to others Ability to communicate effectively with doctors, nurses, and other Medical Center and outside agency personnel May, as a result of skill, experience, and desire, participate in teaching technical aspect of lab procedures, instrument implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance, and test result interpretation Licensure/Registration/Certification: Prefer ASCP certification or eligible. POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT: To perform processing of small non-complex specimens under the direction of and as outlined by histopathology medical director. To perform tests and procedures in a histology laboratory; to perform functions associated with obtaining, receiving and processing of surgical pathology specimens in patients of all ages, to maintain laboratory equipment and supplies, and to perform related duties as assigned. Additional Information: Regions Hospital Histopathology Department is currently seeking a self-motivated, quality-focused histotechnologist to join our team as a Pathology/Histology Technician. As our ideal candidate you are an ASCP board certified Histotechnician or Histotechnologist with previous experience in processing (grossing) tissue specimens. Experience grossing small, non-complex biopsy samples highly preferred. As a Path Tech you will join an innovative and collaborative group of professionals in a supportive work environment.
