Responsibilities

Under direct supervision, train, provide guidance and act as a technical resource to Plant and Facility Maintenance mechanics. Maintain responsibility for assembly, installation, preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment, machinery, plumbing, mechanical and electrical devices.

  • Demonstrate personal commitment to the organizations core values through active involvement in the quality improvement process.

  • Demonstrate safe work practices and attitudes, follow safety rules, work to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participate in organizational and departmental safety programs.

  • Perform a variety of duties including servicing and repair operations of hospital buildings, machines, equipment and systems including sterilizers, fans, compressors, fan coils, intercom systems, beds and pneumatic tube systems.

  • Provide job orientation and on-going guidance to current and newly hired associates in the plant and facility maintenance mechanic job classification. Assist journeyman tradespersons.

  • Perform minor electrical repairs to various equipment and systems including beds, dishwashing machines, sterilizers, pumps, and ice machines.

  • Replace switches, outlets and plugs.

  • Participate in the departmental safety program.

  • Review work orders for priority status and designated time schedules. Requisition materials and supplies.

  • Apply cost effective measures in order to improve efficiency and support cost containment efforts.

  • Perform snow removal and salt spreading of walkways and entrances, driveways and parking lots as assigned.

  • Perform all other duties and projects as assigned.

  • Specific Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills consistent with mission and values.

  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to operate related hand tools, power tools and other equipment.

  • Ability to drive and provide own transportation to various sites in Providence Network.

  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative as well as ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrate effective team building skills including empowerment, open communication and flexibility.

  • Ability to demonstrate friendly, courteous, professional customer service behaviors and provide service recovery in an accommodating manner consistently.

Requirements

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • Valid Michigan Drivers License required.

  • Journeyman Classification required.

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required. Attendance at hospital equipment training schools.

Work Experience:

  • Eight years as maintenance mechanic or equivalent job classification required.

  • Three years supervisory level experience or equivalent required.
