Society of Manufacturing Engineers Lead Graphic Designer in Southfield, Michigan

Concept, design and produce impactful, informative, and on-brand collateral materials for print, web and digital applications. This position will take a lead role in graphic design projects and interact directly with creative manager, staff and customers. Support and advise all levels of internal customers in a graphic design capacity.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

  • Work with Creative Manager on creative strategy development as well as assisting in brand development and execution.
  • Support Creative Manager as a creative resource to design staff with creative direction, innovative approaches and inspired solutions to design challenges. 
  • Create layouts for promotional materials and visual media; execute design work as required per assignment. Support and advise/consult all levels of SME customers in a graphic service capacity. 
  • Produce impactful, informative, and well-designed materials for print and digital specifications as needed.
  • Provide recommendations for design/layout and graphic design-related solutions for department customers, including internal and external customers. Adhere and consult on SME brand standards.
  • Coordinate with photographers, illustrators, copywriters and outside vendors to align with project needs and printing services. 
  • Ability to execute with accuracy retouching/color adjustments to photography.
  • Perform operator level workstation maintenance and troubleshooting as required.
  • Lead creative discussions with the team as well as customers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in graphics discipline 
  • Ten to fifteen years work experience as a lead designer (Art Director) in related field.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills and mentoring skills desirable.
  • Great attention to detail. 
  • Ability to proofread and proofing your own work a must.
  • Advanced level of proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, HTML 5, After Effects, Microsoft Suite (including expert-level PowerPoint skills) and working knowledge of Acrobat Pro, Premier and project management tools (Easy Projects). 
  • Knowledge of printing processes and experience working with print/media vendors.

  • Normal office environment/art department (Mac computer environment)
