The Polyclinic Plastic Surgery Center (Division of Optum) is seeking an ASC (Ambulatory Surgery Center) Manager to join their team. The Polyclinic Plastic Surgery Center is the largest private plastic surgery group in the Seattle area, offering a comprehensive range of cosmetic and reconstructive surgical services. The practice is composed of six board certified Plastic Surgeons and is located in the Penthouse suite of the Nordstrom Tower - adjacent to Swedish Hospital. The 16th floor encompasses both a clinical & aesthetic center space as well as a stand-alone DOH, CMS, AAAASF Accredited Ambulatory Surgery Center. This allows for streamlined care for our patients across the continuum from consultation to surgery to post-operative care.

This leadership position manages all aspects of the ASC with close communication with the surgeons, clinical leadership, as well as all Optum Washington ASC affiliated facilities. We are a strong team that feels like family.

Specific Schedule

Full Time; 5/8’s Days

Under minimal supervision, position in this function is responsible for the administration and supervision of personnel assigned to all aspects of the perioperative process (Preop, OR & PACU). This position is accountable to the Director, ASC (Ambulatory Surgical Centers) for coordination of all nursing care given and all related supporting services. Is a responsible resource for the allocation and completion of assigned functions in the daily operation of the ASC(s). Interprets Clinic and departmental philosophy, objectives, policy and procedures and facilitates effective communication with the ASC team to provide optimal patient experience.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • 40% - Department Management

  • Oversees delivery of services in assigned area and actively works with all members of the department health care team to manage patient care

  • Ensures quality and safety of care and smooth patient flow within department

  • Collaborates with leadership and other business functions in enhancements to clinical care model and operational flow

  • Maintains materials, adequate supplies and equipment in assigned area

  • Maintains an environment of “survey readiness” in assigned area

  • 38% - Staff Management

  • Provides regular performance feedback and conducts performance appraisals. Monitors recertification, skill development and performance of the staff. Directs the work of staff, including supervision, hiring, and terminations; determines staffing needs and ensures efficient utilization of staff

  • Participates in patient experience initiatives

  • Along with ASC Educator, oversees and evaluates orientation program of personnel

  • Communicates educational needs of personnel to Director, ASC and ASC Educator

  • Provides education opportunities to increase knowledge of personnel

  • Plans and participates in departmental staff meetings

  • 10% - Policies and Procedures

  • Develops clinical policy and procedures, and trains to them, in conjunction with ASC Educator. Assists with development of protocols and other related written resource materials appropriate to the needs of the nursing manager’s areas of responsibility

  • Communicates, monitors and enforces compliance with policy and procedures in accordance with Standard Occupational Classification (SOC). Works with ASC Director on any non-compliance issues

  • Maintains current knowledge of the technological development in instrumentation and equipment

  • 10% - Strategic Planning

  • Meets regularly with leadership

  • Assists in budget preparation and resolving variances

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing

  • Current RN License in State of Washington

  • Current AHA- BLS and ACLS certification

  • 2+ years of nursing experience in an ASC/OR setting

  • 2+ years of leadership experience (lead, supervisor and above) in an ASC/OR Setting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Operating Room (OR): Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR)

  • POC/POH/PACU: ASPAN Certification

  • Demonstrated advanced level of achievement of performance standards according to AORN or ASPAN standards of practice

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of ADA, Fitness for Duty, FMLA policy, HIV counseling procedures & blood borne pathogen protocols, WISHA/OSHA mandated regulations, Personal protective equipment, Hazards materials, and Infection control procedures. Knowledge and ability to teach and apply current theories, techniques and practice

  • Skills:

  • Utilizes effective communication skills in interpersonal relationships with patients, families, physicians, and other health care providers. Demonstrates effective/informative charting & written communication. Skill in applying & modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide on-going patient care. Critical thinking skills, ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Demonstrated proficiency in using Word, Outlook and limited expertise in Excel

  • Abilities:

  • Demonstrates ability to carry out skills as outlined in nursing procedures for clinical areas worked including administration of prescribed medications & treatments in accordance with nursing standards and clinic policy. Demonstrates ability to perform self-evaluation, taking responsibility for own professional growth and development. Demonstrates accountability/responsibility for own actions and decisions. Demonstrates ability to function effectively in emergency situations. Demonstrates an ability to communicate (verbal & written) and maintain good relationships with medical staff, management, customers, & other departments

Washington Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $88,000 to $173,200 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
