Assistant Men’s Ice Hockey Coach

Supervisor:Head Men’s Ice Hockey Coach

Position Purpose:Works closely with the head coach to develop and execute training programs, provide guidance and mentorship to student-athletes, and contribute to the overall success of the men’s ice hockey program.

Union College, a highly selective liberal arts institution located in Schenectady, New York is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Coach of Men’s Ice Hockey. Union College is an NCAA multi-classified institution that sponsors 26 intercollegiate sports. Ice Hockey competes in Division I ECAC Hockey, and 24 sports compete in the Division III Liberty League.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Recruitment:Assists in recruiting and retaining top prospective student athletes who are fully engaged in the mission of Union College. Collaborates with the head coach and admissions department to arrange on-campus visits for all prospective student-athletes and their families. Ensures compliance with all recruitment policies and procedures.

  • Coaching:Demonstrates effective teaching methods and exceptional leadership skills. Collaborates with the athletics trainer to prioritize the health, safety, and well-being of all participants. Conducts thorough analysis of practice and game film to inform strategic practice and game planning.

  • Student-Athlete Development:Works proactively with campus stakeholders to ensure the academic success and development of student-athletes. Mentors student-athletes.

  • Administration:Supports aspects designated by the head coach of the hockey program adhering to NCAA, league, and department compliance. Pitches in to assist colleagues as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or a combination of relevant education, training, certifications, and/or work experience. Master’s degree is preferred.

  • Minimum of three years of proven success in coaching ice hockey, with a demonstrated ability to recruit high-caliber student-athletes who contribute to the overall success of the program.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in computer skills, particularly with experience using XOS software, is preferred.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as necessary for recruiting.

  • Able to proactively identify and pursue relevant learning and professional development opportunities and apply new knowledge, insights, and skills to enhance results.

  • The ability to foster and enhance a thriving, culturally diverse, and inclusive learning community, while promoting a sense of belonging among students, alumni, faculty, and staff colleagues.

Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00-$95,000.00.Except for roles with a set rate of pay, the wage/salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The stated hiring rate/range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate/range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
