Leidos Mechanical Engineer in San Diego, California

Description

Leidos is seeking a talented mid-senior Mechanical Engineer to join our diverse team and create unique solutions to complex problems for our National Security Space (NSS) department in San Diego. This position will allow occasional flexibility for a hybrid schedule, but with the expectation that most work will be onsite as part of a well-integrated team.

The ideal Mechanical Engineer candidate for this role would possess a solid background in electro-mechanical integrated systems, preferably with experience in material science, spacecraft systems, mechanisms, and mechanical design. Experience in manufacturing environments would also be desirable for this position. This candidate should be a proactive problem solver who doesn’t wait to be assigned tasks but instead actively identifies and solves them, proposing solutions as opposed to simply identifying problems.

Primary Responsibilities

Candidate selected for this position will be responsible for:

  • Mechanical design, from overall system level to individual piece parts, as well as tolerance stack-ups and various types of analysis.

  • Create part and assembly drawings; participate in design reviews.

  • Build prototypes, analyze failures, and implement solutions.

  • Develop novel tooling solutions for assembly, integration, logistics, and test.

  • Work with technicians and other engineers hands-on, building, and integrating hardware.

  • Assisting junior engineers to solve technical challenges.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree plus eight or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Additional experience and technical training may substitute for degree requirement.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplined team; able to perform complex tasks applying engineering first principles.

  • Experience with GD&T and performing tolerance stack up analysis.

  • Must have strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with CAD based software such as SolidWorks.

  • U.S. Citizenship

  • Candidate must reside in the San Diego, CA area or be willing to relocate to the area.

  • Current Secret clearance and eligibility for a Top Secret/SCI clearance is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current TS/SCI clearance is preferred

  • Five years of experience in space product (space vehicle or payload) design, manufacturing, or support that includes broad demonstrated experience in electrical, mechanical, software, and manufacturing engineering including product design, validation, test, troubleshooting, repair, and support.

  • Experience with designing for manufacturing

  • Experience with opto-mechanical systems.

  • Experience with performing thermal and structural analysis.

  • Personal experience physically manufacturing and assembling hardware.

  • Experience working in a clean room environment.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $101,400.00 - $183,300.00
