Location: Parker Meggitt Engineered Materials Group-CFC-San Diego (Mira Mesa)

The Engineering Technician will facilitate the implementation of Engineering changes, lead technician training, and troubleshooting composite manufacturing process issues. The Engineering Technician is the liaison between Engineering and production technicians and will work with composite technicians to understand and document areas of concern then provide a synopsis to engineering to develop solutions.

  • Identify, implement, and troubleshoot composite process, material, or equipment problems from a point of use perspective to minimize down time and recommend solutions to production technicians, facilities and Manufacturing Engineering (IPT members).

  • Work with IPT to develop, assemble, procure or modify existing and new tooling, fixtures, and equipment to ensure efficient production methods.

  • Assist the Manufacturing Engineers with revisions and improvements to manufacturing methods and procedures.

  • Supports production rate increases through testing of production product following applicable processes and procedures.

  • Complete time studies to quantify processing times and identify areas for process improvements.

  • Assist with hands on training of manufacturing employees on new processes, tooling, equipment and process revisions.

  • Reads drawings, schematics, work instructions and inspection sheets to perform the following; processing composites, perform raw material and load testing, provide design for manufacturing input to build fixtures, and trouble-shoot equipment.

  • Assist in failure analysis, troubleshooting, rework/repair of non-conforming manufactured product to determine root cause

  • Promote and support Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement activities in Manufacturing.

  • Comply with policies, guidelines and regulatory requirements per the Parker Quality Management System

  • Assists in training for technicians when new ECN’s are released

  • Performs process audits to ensure production technicians are following the work instructions

  • Assists in non-conformance part processing documentation

Education:Two years associates degree in Engineering related field or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience needed to successfully enable completion of job duties listed herein.

Years Experience:At least 3-5 years of experience processing polymer matrix composites within an aerospace manufacturing business.

Skills:

  • Self-starter, ability to perform all assigned tasks, work independently, review JIRA work orders and provide status to complete work on schedule.

  • Follow Manufacturing Engineers direction while displaying cooperative and positive behavior with co-workers.

  • Strong problem solving skills and efficient management of time and resources.

  • Strong communicator, written and verbal, with the ability to lead and teach production technicians to improve processes.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude, must be able to fabricate, assemble, and disassemble complex tools and fixtures.

  • Basic understanding and ability to read drawings per ASME Y-14.5- 2009

  • Working knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Understand equipment heating configurations and provide thermal survey map recommendations and setup instrumentation

  • Thermal survey’s using DAQ’s and interpretation experience, e.g. Agilent and BenchLink or equivalent
