Document Control Specialist (San Diego, CA)

Malin Space Science Systems (MSSS) is a private technology company that designs, develops and operates space camera systems for government and commercial aerospace customers and provides services in spacecraft instrument operations and space science research. As a member of our multidisciplinary space imaging systems design team, the Document Control Specialist is responsible for the archiving of technical documents (includes receiving documents and externally sourced reference material) both electronically and in a hardcopy format. The Document Control Specialist also helps maintain and ensure compliance with configuration management standard operating procedures, overseeing and indexing internally generated design documents and drawings. Essential Functions

  • Maintains procedures for the archiving of technical documents.

  • Reviews and archives receiving documents and build documentation, both electronic and hardcopy.

  • Maintains electronic reference document library.

  • Provides support to production in assembling and maintaining build documentation binders.

  • Maintains index of all documents and drawings in the configuration management system and report to engineering management when non-conformances are found.

  • Assists in training engineering staff on configuration management procedures.

  • Performs additional tasks preparing data sets and documents in Word and Excel, as required.

  • Prior to entering assembly, test, storage or development areas within the Camera Systems Group unescorted, receive initial and ongoing annual training in the fundamentals of Electrostatic Discharge (ESD).

    Non-Essential Functions

  • Provides audit support as needed.

  • Performs other duties as required or requested which may become essential to this position.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2 years of related experience.

  • Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbally.

  • Experience with technical writing, including bibliographical referencing.

  • Must be well organized and must have high attention to detail.

  • Strong Word and Excel skills.

    Physical Requirements Must be able to remain in a stationary position operating a computer for periods of time, while handling changing priorities simultaneously . Must be able to communicate clearly with a variety of people on a daily basis. Occasionally moves about the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Occasionally moves boxes weighing up to 25 pounds across office. Ability to handle stressful deadlines from time to time. Ability to work and move around in a cleanroom environment, wearing required outer garments including smock/coveralls, shoe covers, mask, hood and gloves.
