Job Description

Your substantial electronics experience and in-depth technical knowledge allows you to overcome complex challenges that require prompt, on-the-job decision making skills, a high level of leadership, and professional communication skills. You are just as comfortable in a lab - teaching proper electronic circuit board assembly - as you are in Yokosuka, Japan, leading troubleshooting efforts on a previously unknown and particularly elusive AN/UPX-29(V) IFF system integration problem while under close customer observation. Your breadth of experience influences others to consistently seek you out for your ability to quickly grasp and understand on a deeply technical level the issues at hand and you deftly point out solutions.

Specific examples of expected tasking is as follows:

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the AN/UPX-29(V) IFF System by directly supporting the IFF FMS spectrum of work. Such tasking may include onsite test events, system assessments, Fleet Modernization Program installations, answering technical questions from junior sailors, and actively promoting the dissemination of knowledge to your junior peers.

  • Act as the Alteration Installation Team (AIT) Lead during shipboard installations in accordance with the requirements of NAVSEA s TS9090.310G.

  • Successfully plan and conduct AIT Regional Maintenance and Modernization Coordination Office (RMMCO) check-in and check-out processes.

  • Spearhead the technical and professional development of your team, actively grooming them to be the next generation of SME s.

  • Provide detailed and in-depth training to shipboard IFF system technicians on the AN/UPX-29(V) system upgrades installed by your team.

  • Provide technical services in support of the AN/UPX-29(V) Interrogator System during grooms, Combat System Ship Qualification Trials (CSSQT), Material Condition Assessments (MCA), and Aegis Light-Off Assessments (ALOA).

  • Interface directly with ship s force department heads and other high level leadership to provide status updates and recommend corrective action.

Must be willing to travel 25-35% of the time to assist with shipboard/shore-based system installations and test events and will work onboard ships to accomplish assignments. Must be comfortable climbing to go aloft for antenna inspections and lifting/carrying heavy objects. May be required to work overtime hours or weekends to support installations and test events and will occasionally perform work in disagreeable environmental conditions.

This position is located in scenic and historic Southern Maryland in St. Mary's County, near to the Patuxent River Naval Air Station.

Some relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates. Applicants must be currently residing in or state willingness to relocate self to St. Mary's County, Maryland or surrounding areas.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

High school diploma and at least 4 years of electronics experience working with United States Navy combat systems

NEC 1571 (V06B) or equivalent AN/UPX-29(V) course or experience

NEC 1572 (V07B) or equivalent AIMS system technician

In lieu of the NEC s listed above, may substitute Alteration Installation Team Lead (AIT) experience, to include experience with Regional Maintenance and Modernization Coordination Office (RMMCO) check-in and check-out processes

Ability to climb aloft for antenna maintenance and lift/carry heavy objects

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) - 10 hour certified

Certified solder technician specializing in SMT, lead free and through-hole

Certified cable fabricator

Experience with electronic circuit board assembly and testing

Experience with troubleshooting complex, interconnected electronics systems in a shipboard environment, to include 5-wire synchro signals

Experience with solid-core and multi-pin connector/cable assembly

Pay Information

This position is covered by a wage law called the McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act (SCA). The wage range for this position is determined by the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor on a contract-by-contract basis.
