JOB TITLE: Media Center Paraprofessional

DEPARTMENT/BUILDING: Elementary, Middle & High Schools

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Saginaw Public Schools Literacy Tech Aides are responsible for assisting in providing comprehensive school media services for students, staff, and building principals in a helpful, positive, congenial and flexible manner.

  1. Knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, literacy software and other related software
  2. Knowledge of current technology
  3. Skilled in operating standard office equipment

Physical Demands -- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand and/walk, sit, lift and carry a minimum of ten (10) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, such as reading data on a computer screen or printed materials. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Organize and prepare Circulation/Information area for services on a daily basis, including needed supplies

Responsible for shelving and straightening library materials

Process new materials and supplies

Routine reporting, cleaning and maintenance of hardware and AV equipment

Responsible for media center procedural notes, notebooks and files

Prepare bulletin boards and displays

Support students and Teachers in the use of literacy software (Accelerated Reader, S.T.A.R. and Accelerate Math)

Use library media management software for circulation (CIRC) and public access catalog (PAC) and provide weekly and monthly notices and reports

Perform and apply established circulation procedures to all resources and equipment

Compile magazine subscription reports using Microsoft Excel

Produce reports, bibliographies, lists and indexes as assigned

Provide user support in use of computer-based information retrieval systems

Provide user support for and troubleshoot difficulties in using district-wide software

Assist the students with resource selection in coordination with the Teacher

Perform inventory procedures using the library media management system in coordination with the district literac
