At Rotating Machines Rugby (RMR), we design and build some of the most technically advanced electrical rotating machinery in the world. We specialise in manufacturing large electrical rotating machinery: Motors and Generators, across a wide variety of industrial applications. Our motors are powering some of the most advanced warships in the world, whilst our generators are decarbonising industry for a more sustainable future.

The Manufacturing Readiness & Technologies Team is a part of the RMR Engineering Department and consists of a team of Manufacturing Engineers, responsible for development and implementation of new innovative manufacturing technologies. We drive improvements to execution, efficiency, and cost reduction through the continual implementation of Lean Manufacturing techniques and innovative ideas- a key part of the scope of work. We also ensure all the prior preparations are in place so that new projects can be manufactured as efficiently as possible.

Reporting to the Manufacturing Readiness & Technologies Leader, the Lean Specialist is a key part of driving lean initiatives across the whole of Manufacturing and the various manufacturing process areas to deliver notable improvements in cost and efficiency. They coach, drive and lead lean behaviors, principles, and tools across operational or functional areas. Drive cultural transformation resulting in step-change in operational business metrics.

What you will be doing as part of our team…

• Driving Kaizen initiatives and tracking their impact/cost savings. Eliminating waste in all its forms i.e. the 7 Wastes of Lean (movement, overprocessing, rework, waiting time etc)

• Leading Capex investment projects- from proposal/cost benefit analysis through to installation and commissioning/handover.

• Leading Lean/Kaizen improvement studies to improve manufacturing efficiencies.

• Planning and coordination of preparation activities, installation/commissioning of new kit, equipment, or contractor supervision.

• Leading initiatives and presentations to senior leaders to get buy in and approval for business funding.

• Analysing and planning workflow, space requirements and equipment placement to maximise manufacturing efficiency.

Working cross functionally as part of a global GE team to ensure our customers (both external and internal) are satisfied with their experience of dealing with us.

Job Description

Who we are looking for…

• An experienced Lean leader with strong abilities to lead change within our manufacturing organisation.

• Demonstrable Lean Qualifications and/or prior experience in leading Lean initiatives- making real data driven improvements directly targeting efficiency

• Driven self-starter who reacts positively to challenges.

• Excellent organizational, time management and decision-making skills.

• The aptitude to work as part of a diverse and multi-disciplined project team, whilst working on multiple projects.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills including negotiation, and presentation.

• A broad knowledge of manufacturing processes, their engineering challenges and best practices.

• Motivating and influencing change agent.

• Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and documentation.

• Proven ability to work in a dynamic team environment.

• Demonstrated ability to train shop floor operators. Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately across the business up to Senior management level.

• Outstanding computer literacy and knowledge of design. Computer literate in Word processing, Excel and Power point applications
