Summary:

Functions in scrub role as assistant during endoscopic procedures. Provides duties within the parameters of this assignment of responsibility, according to prescribed, delegated, medical regimen and the hospital policy. Performs the daily cleaning, disinfecting, preventive maintenance, and storage of endoscopes and accessory equipment, when assigned. Transports patient to and from various locations, and performs basic tasks in support of patient care.

Responsibilities:

  1. Functions in the assistant role during endoscopic procedures to include, but not limited to:
  • Gathers and assembles supplies and equipment;

  • -Creates and maintains aseptic environment;

  • -Checks procedure room for cleanliness and organization;

  • -Test scopes, fiberoptic lights and suction for proper functioning;

  • -Transports patients to procedure room;

  • -Enters patient into Endoscopy documentation Software; -Verifies presence of consents

  • -Verifies identity, procedure, allergies and NPO status with procedure nurse;

  • -Provides emotional support to the patient;

  • -Assists with the positioning of the patient on the stretcher for the procedure;

  • -Dons protective wear and assists others with same;

  • -Passes instruments to physician;

  • -Maintains safety of patient during procedure;

  • -Retrieves items needed during the procedure;

  • -Completes charge record for supplies, and equipment;

  • -Inspects and removes scopes / equipment for cleaning;

  • -May be required to perform other related duties

  3. Maintains endoscopic equipment and associated documentation, when assigned.

  4. Participates in general cleaning duties.

  5. Communicates with team members and other care providers regarding patient care.

  6. Sets up, operates and/or maintains equipment and work areas.

  7. Demonstrates knowledge and skill necessary to provide appropriate care based on the age of the patients served.

  8. Communicates with team members and other care providers regarding patient care.

  9. Knows and applies safety and infection control procedures.

  10. Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.

  11. Performs miscellaneous duties, as needed, to support unit operations and the provision of care.

Education Requirements:

  • Graduation from a Nursing Assistant II

  • Certificate SGNA Associates Program preferred

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

● NA I Current registry listing on the NC Nurse Aide I registry.

● Nursing Assistant II Current listing as a NAII with the NC Board of Nursing

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification

  • Certification in Surgical Technology preferred

Professional Experience Requirements:

● Two (2) year of Healthcare/Medical - Healthcare - procedure assistant experience or completion of an approved On-The-Job Training Program
