Leidos IT Manager II (NCI) in ROCKVILLE, Maryland
The mission of the Data Science and Information Technology Program (DSITP) is to develop an enterprise-level, consolidated information technology infrastructure that provides exceptional IT capabilities to the Frederick National Labs for Cancer Research (NCI-Frederick/FNLCR) in support of basic, translational, and clinical cancer and AIDS research. The Biomedical Informatics Applications Development (BIAD)Group is part of the DSITP within Leidos Biomedical Research. The BIAD team is primarily involved in the development of the projects sponsored by NCI. KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES - IT Manager II
This management position will be responsible for leading a team of Bioinformatists to support the various Biomedical applications developed for the NCI.
The IT Manager:
Will be required to be extremely detail oriented and ensure all reports, documents, and scientific advice are thoroughly and accurately prepared in timely manner
Will be expected to work closely with software engineers to implement requirements, change implementations, and explain scientific concepts
Is expected to be proficient with python, perl, and the linux command line in order to be able to both directly support bioinformatics needs and to mentor and coach team members in that support
Requires a strong knowledge of bioinformatics file types including, but not limited to, vcf, fasta, bam/sam, and bed
Requires a strong knowledge of next generation sequencing (ngs), variant annotation, and variant calling pipelines
A strong working knowledge of informatics in cancer research is required
Ability to read scientific literature, digest content, and make scientific\policy recommendations based on analysis is also required. Experience with clinical trials is highly desired
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
Possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biotechnology or similar. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education).
Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
In addition to educational requirement, a minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible job related experience including two (2) years of experience in a leadership capacity
Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance
