University of Rochester Hiring Navigator, Center for Comm. Health & Prev in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Center for Community Health & Prevention works to create environments that support healthy behaviors and promote health equity. The Center encompasses a wide variety of programs and initiatives aimed at preventing disease to create a healthier community.

The Teen Health and Success Partnership (THSP) matches local high school students with employment opportunities at the University of Rochester and provides hiring and employment assistance to support students’ long-term career success. The THSP aims to provide local students with the vision and job skills for a range of educational and career options after graduation, and enables UR departments to employ well-prepared youth from the local diverse community. The program is a partnership with two local nonprofits organizations, Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection (HWSC) and Encompass: Resources for Learning. THSP resides at URMC’s Center for Community Health and Prevention.

Under general guidance from the THSP program director, and with significant latitude for independent judgment, the Departmental Program Specialist II oversees the implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of the THSP recruitment and hiring timeline and is versed on of all aspects of the THSP program, UR Human Resources policies and procedures, and community stakeholder core functions and goals. Functions in multiple capacities to assist THSP in attaining all performance measures, program goals and strategic plan.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors and support the hiring process for high school students living in the City of Rochester who are interested in healthcare careers or other employment at the University of Rochester.

  • Develop and lead monthly recruitment presentations for high school students.

  • Ensure clear communication of THSP expectations, hiring process, and resources.

  • Coordinate with nonprofit partners and conduct student pre-screen interviews.

  • Maintain tracking tools to track student hiring process.

  • Coach potential hires on all workplace expectations, interviewing skills, and job specific responsibilities.

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners.

  • Serve as liaison between UR/URMC department contacts, UR HR, nonprofits, local high schools, and other internal and community partners.

  • Responsible for providing updates on recruitment efforts, hiring numbers, and newly created positions to program director.

  • Administers correspondence to over 40 UR worksite and department partners to recruit, secure and retain employment opportunities for THSP participants.

  • Develops job descriptions for THSP jobs, with input from hiring department, and modifies existing THSP jobs to include pathways for upward mobility within departments.

  • Updates hiring process manual that includes detailed information regarding child labor law rules, regulations, and safety guidelines as they pertain to youth employment. The Hiring Navigator is the hiring department’s first contact as it relates to these guidelines and supports departments with compliance.

  • Coordinates employment interviews with hiring department; administers and screens student references, arranges pre-employment testing and orientation.

  • Partners with UR HR Service Center to administer a New Hire Orientation for THSP participants. During the academic year, independently facilitates new hire orientations.

  • Support East High School’s Biomedical Lab Sciences pathway with career panels and job placement support.

  • Maintains THSP tracking sheets and REDcap database.

  • Compiles, tracks, and analyzes program data to ensure THSP meets annual goals.

  • Works collaboratively with THSP team on all program initiatives, professional development opportunities and collaborations with UR HR and other UR departments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Course work in HR, public/community health, social work or adolescent development preferred

  • 2 years of relevant experience or combination of education and experience

  • Highly motivated with improvement mindset required.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including written communication required.

  • Excellent presentation skills with an ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse cultural backgrounds, a wide range of age groups and people from entry level roles to senior leadership within the UR and Rochester community required.

  • Experience acting as a liaison or coordinator between organizations or departments required.

  • Ability to travel to various locations within the City of Rochester.

  • Microsoft office computer skills required.

  • Some evening and weekend hours may be required required.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $50,752 - $71,053 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
