Geo-Technology Associates, Inc. Geotechnical Engineering Technician in Raleigh, North Carolina

Geo-Technology Associates, Inc. (GTA) is seeking bright, enthusiastic candidates to work as Geotechnical Engineering Technician for our Construction Observation & Testing Division in Raleigh/Knightdale, NC. Ideal candidates will have an interest in building a career in the construction observation, environmental, and/or geotechnical consulting fields. As a Technician, you will provide a wide range of observation and testing services for geotechnical and environmental development projects as you support geologists, engineers, and scientists for a diverse client base in the private and public sectors.

Some of your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Performing tests on soil, concrete, asphalt, and other materials at the construction site or in one of our laboratories. Field testing commonly involves testing the moisture and density testing of soils using a nuclear density testing gauge

  • Most of your work will be outdoors. Great for those who don't want to sit behind a desk! Be prepared to work in a variety of weather conditions

  • Observing and documenting construction activities to assure compliance with technical specifications. Prepare daily field reports and test summaries documenting the work.

  • Interacting with contractors, clients, and GTA personnel to evaluate site conditions and participate in work progress meetings.

Requirements:

  • NICET and/or ACI certifications preferred but not required

GTA will provide you with Personal Protective Equipment, which includes High Visibility Vest, Hard Hat, Gloves, and Safety Glasses.

Compensation is paid on an hourly basis. Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate. Your time is measured from the time you arrive at the office in the morning to the time you leave the office in the evening, excluding any time for lunch. Travel mileage is reimbursed at the IRS rate (currently $0.63 per mile) for travel from office to job site and back to office.

PLEASE NOTE: This position may require standing for extended durations as well as repetitive motions such as lifting or hammering. The employee must have the ability to use their hands to handle, finger or feel; reach, climb or balance; crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit, see and smell; including close, distance and peripheral vision, depth vision and ability to focus. The employee will regularly lift and/or move 60 pounds; and occasionally move 80 pounds or more (such as a loaded wheelbarrow of concrete or soil samples).
