Meta Senior Systems Designer - BigBox in Providence, Rhode Island

Summary:

You are a talented Game Designer looking to build the next generation of online, multiplayer games for Meta Quest. You excel at thinking in spreadsheets to design systems for live service games and you also love iterating on the intangible fun of moment-to-moment gameplay. You are a self-starting problem-solver with a strong vision for gameplay progression and an expert at prototyping, refining and implementing game systems that keep a variety of players coming back.

Required Skills:

Senior Systems Designer - BigBox Responsibilities:

  1. Design, implement, and tune game systems including economies, player abilities, weapons, gear, customization, metagame.

  2. Understand, in detail, best practices for gameplay systems based on design trends.

  3. Prototype, playtest and iterate gameplay on a daily basis to prove the fun as early as possible.

  4. Create clear and organized design documentation that concisely communicate requirements and success criteria.

  5. Create simulations and data modeling of systems to measure intended results before implementation.

  6. Work closely with the analytics team to monitor and optimize the performance of game systems in the live environment.

  7. Review and distill down successful and unsuccessful implementations of systems and gameplay mechanics to reveal opportunities for improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 5+ years of game design experience and at least 2 full development cycles as a systems designer.

  2. Experience designing, developing and maintaining metagame systems in a live product.

  3. Experience with gameplay mechanics and systems for Free-to-Play games, including microtransaction and social features.

  4. Proven communication skills and the experience to make complex designs easy to understand.

  5. An innate sense for what players find fun particularly in game balance, player goals, and progression.

  6. Experienced creating innovative new systems and enhance existing ones.

  7. Experience acting on feedback from stakeholders to iterate and improve on designs.

  8. Knows when to continue developing work in progress, pivot, or reset and restart for the best outcome.

  9. Interest for playing games and understanding their underlying elements, particularly RPG’s and First Person Shooters.
