Research Technician

 

The Lee Oesterreich Lab is seeking a Research Technician to join their group at the Women's Cancer Research Center. The Research Technician will be expected to perform complex and specialized cellular and molecular biology experiments using cancer cell lines, patient specimens, and animal models in a laboratory setting. The candidate will also participate in the collection and lab processing of blood and tissue samples from cancer patients enrolled in clinical trials. The candidate will assist in developing active research projects in the laboratory, designing experiments and new research protocols, and will work independently to perform the experiments. The candidate is expected to work independently with minimum supervision to analyze data, prepare reports, and discuss data with PI and other lab members at weekly lab meetings. The candidate must have prior experience in biomedical research, including advanced techniques in cellular (cell culture, western blot, colony formation assay) and molecular biology (PCR, rt-PCR). Experience with animal experiments using xenografts, syngeneic, and GEM models is highly desirable. Excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills are required. The candidate must work well with others. Will also monitor laboratory processes to maintain quality assurance standards.

 

Job Summary

Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.

Essential Functions

Working on lab bench in cellular (cell cultures, flow cytometry) and molecular biology, performing animal experiments, analysis of data, and preparing reports. Performing ordering and phone calls and email communications, and entering data in database. Communication with collaborators over phone or email. Attending meetings in-person or virtual.

Physical Effort

Primarily sedentary. Must be capable of animal handling, animal surgeries, patient tissue samples, and handling laboratory equipment and supplies.
