Research Lab Technician II Job Summary

 

Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.

 

Essential Functions

The laboratory of Isin Cakir, at the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Pittsburgh, is looking for a highly motivated research laboratory technician to join our research team. Our laboratory is focused on understanding how the central nervous system regulates energy stores and on inter-tissue communication. You will help assist with defined research projects under the guidance of a team including the PI and a postdoctoral fellow. You will focus on mouse husbandry, molecular genetic techniques, tissue sectioning and staining, and management of the laboratory's mouse colony. This job will require you to handle small mammals (breeding and genotyping mouse colonies and transgenic lines), as well as perform standard molecular biology experiments including DNA and RNA isolations, restriction digests, gel electrophoresis, protein isolation, PCR and qPCR, and genotyping. Candidate may also be involved in animal experiments including mouse behavioral analyses, metabolic analyses, and harvesting of tissues. You will be expected to perform mouse perfusions, brain sectioning, in situ hybridization, and immunohistochemical stainings. General responsibilities will include the collecting, analyzing, and processing of laboratory samples while demonstrating an understanding of acceptable procedures and techniques and maintaining well-organized, written records of experimental results.

Physical Effort

May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time. May be required to move objects up to 50 pounds with or without assistance of equipment.
