Summary: The Research Specialist will work under the supervision of the Director, CRORA and the Principal Investigator in the Neurology Department in LKSOM. The incumbent will be responsible for the execution of multiple research studies related to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, including treatment trials, collection of natural history data and entry, collection and cataloguing of samples for the tissue bank and performance of biochemical and biomarker assays related to mechanisms of disease. In this position, the associate will interact with clinical research team members, research subjects with ALS, and research and clinical faculty. In sponsored research projects the associate will be responsible for regulatory materials and interacting with the sponsor and their representatives. Essential Functions of Position: Primary responsibilities include the coordination of study enrollment, oversight of study protocols, and submission of research activities per IRB regulations.  Incumbent will establish and maintain databases of subjects, process informed consent paperwork, and ensure study payment is processed and received in a timely fashion dependent on the sponsor instructions. This may involve the use of On Core or the production of invoices. Additional responsibilities include working independently to drive day to day research activities, supporting multiple active protocols simultaneously while adhering to FDA, IRB, Pennsylvania, and related regulations. The incumbent may assist with supplying information used in progress report preparation as requested by the Principal Investigator. The incumbent will enroll subjects in the tissue bank and collect samples of serum, plasma and urine and clinical trials/studies, process samples by centrifuging and freezing down aliquots, organize and store samples, conduct experiments to analyze collected samples, when necessary, maintain database with clinical data tied to the biological samples. Studies will include multi-site trials where Temple is the lead site and data will be collected and analyzed from multiple other sites. Additional responsibilities include: administering outcome measures, enter data, process and ship samples, maintain regulatory documents and correspondence. Maintain the lab protocols for handling of specimens and order appropriate tubes and supplies for sample collection as required by the protocols for the clinical research studies. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in life science or health professions field and at least two years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
