BAE Systems Engineering Technician III / IV - Landing Systems (PALS) in Patuxent River, Maryland

Job Description

BAE Systems is seeking a SCA Engineering Technician III to provide technical support for the AN/SPN-46(V) Automatic Carrier Landing System (ACLS), also known as the Precision Approach Landing System (PALS). Responsibilities will include maintenance and troubleshooting, flight test support, fleet support, and operational testing of new system installations.

Your duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Perform lab-based system installations at the Landing Systems Test Facility (LSTF) at Patuxent River, MD.

  • Conducting daily maintenance of lab systems at LSTF.

  • Supporting flight test events at LSTF.

  • Identify, troubleshoot, diagnose and repair system faults.

  • Performing system certification testing aboard U.S. Navy ships.

  • Performing System Operational Verification Tests (SOVT) of newly installed or modified systems.

  • Perform onsite and distance technical assistance to the fleet.

  • Develop and perform test plans and procedures.

  • Develop Field Change Bulletins.

  • Update existing drawings and test procedures.

The hourly rate for this position is set by the Dept of Labor and is not negotiable. Current rate is $28.79 / $35.64. Leveling will be determined based on experience and qualifications.

This position is located in scenic and historic Southern Maryland in St. Mary's County, near to the Patuxent River Naval Air Station.

There is no monetary relocation assistance budgeted for this position. Applicants must be currently residing in or state willingness to relocate self to St. Mary's County, Maryland or surrounding areas.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

High School diploma and at least 4 years of related experience

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Proficiency with MS Office (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)

Basic understanding of electronic components

Basic understanding of functional schematics and wiring diagrams

Experience with military electronic systems to include assembling or installing equipment or parts requiring simple wiring, soldering, or connecting

Ability to obtain a passport

Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs

Ability to work on US Navy ships, to include walking up and down multiple flights of stairs

Ability to stay onboard US Navy Ships while at sea (typically 4-7 days at a time)

Ability to travel up to 25%

Ability to ride on military transport aircraft (i.e. personnel transport helicopters or planes)

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

Military electronics training in AN/SPN-46, ASR-, SPS-, TPN-, TPS, or FPN- systems

Any technical familiarity with the AN/SPN-46(V)

Any technical certification from technical school, trade school, advanced armed services in the fields of electricity, electronics, avionics, mechanics, or engineering technology

Pay Information

This position is covered by a wage law called the McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act (SCA). The wage range for this position is determined by the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor on a contract-by-contract basis.
