Oshkosh Corporation Functional Safety Engineer (Entry level) in Oshkosh, Wisconsin

Our engineering and product innovation help keep soldiers and firefighters safe, is critical in building and keeping communities clean and helps people do their jobs every day.

In this role you will be responsible for supporting the advancement of Oshkosh’s newest technologies by ensuring vehicles across all Oshkosh business units safely serve our customers and communities. As a Functional Safety Engineer with the Global Tech. Software team, you will work in a highly collaborative cross functional environment to elevate the safety designs of our vehicle’s electrical and electronic systems. This includes development of safety concepts, requirements, and architectures for electrical powertrains, advance driver assist systems (ADAS), and battery electric vehicles.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead engagement with product design teams to implement state of the art safety concepts

  • Grow systems engineers and developers understanding of functional safety

  • Preform analysis, development, and validation of safety-critical control and software systems

  • Lead safety analyses such as Hazard and Risk Analysis (HARA), Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)

  • Define, create, and maintain safety related documents

Basic Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Systems, Electrical, Computer, Mechanical engineering or equivalent

  • Experienced in control system design and development

  • Ability to interact across multiple engineering disciplines

  • Passion for the development of robust safe systems

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Knowledge of functional safety standards such as ISO 26262 or IEC 61508

Preferred Qualification

  • 0-2 years of electrical and electronic system development

  • Experience with tools such as IBM DOORS, Medini, MagicDraw

  • Proficient in SysML or similar modeling language
