NBC Universal Technical Specialist, Mechanical Systems – Universal Epic Universe. in Orlando, Florida

Universal Orlando Resort believes in-person collaboration is key to our success. Many of our Team Members work in a hybrid capacity, contributing from the workplace a minimum of three days per week. JOB SUMMARY:

Organize and establish effective project management; coordinate and manage design and specification decisions and documentation production; effectively manage changes in the project and eliminate disruptions between project participants; ensure quality design and technical work while properly managing the work in the field. Provides sustaining support in the day-to-day park operation and mechanical maintenance support for Ride and Show systems. This includes, but is not limited to downtime recovery, troubleshooting, fault analysis/root cause analysis, redesign assignments, test and start-up integration of Ride and Show systems, specializing in hydraulic systems.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises the fault identification and analysis to facilitate downtime recovery of the day-to-day operations of UO working with the internal and external engineers and maintenance staff. Manages the troubleshooting efforts of hydraulic fluid power systems and mechanical systems, providing detailed analysis of failures (root cause analysis) and how to prevent from recurrence to improve overall ride operations. Provides design and maintenance support for all UO attractions. Effectively communicate on all technical issues related to hydraulic equipment and recommend change proposals. Manage the implementation of proposed changes in accordance with engineering procedures.

  • Manages the implementation of solutions (proactive maintenance practices) to improve operational reliability, safety, and serviceability of Ride & Show mechanical and hydraulic equipment through improved diagnostics, technician training, and Preventative Maintenance improvement. Perform research and give solutions for Predictive Maintenance technology to ensure operational improvement of mechanical and hydraulic equipment.

  • Supports design modification of Ride and Show mechanical and hydraulic system equipment for projects assigned from Technical Services Management or Engineering Management. Monitor efficient working of all mechanical and hydraulic equipment, making required adjustments and providing field support to maintenance technicians.

  • Perform oversight of the vendor support and technician design implementation work. This includes but not limited to evaluation of technical performance which includes all aspects of the project. It also includes management of the Engineering change notice process and modification documentation; coordinates assigned engineering activities between ride planners, ride supervisors, ride managers, and ride technicians.

  • Provides project status of assigned task list items to the appropriate Technical Services management and engineering management on a regular basis. Updates project status via Maximo on a regular basis. Maintains configuration management of mechanical and hydraulic hardware and software (drawings) documentation in accordance with engineering guidelines and procedures for proper archiving and security.

  • Develops Acceptance Test Procedures on mechanical and hydraulic systems. Provides procurement specifications and provide support to all material requirements for replacement equipment.

  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION:

Technical School or Associate degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent field experience and/or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 7+ years’ experience in mechanical equipment in a theme park or equivalent environment required.

  • 7+ years field experience of hydraulic system technical fault analysis/isolation experience required;

  • or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Hydraulic Fluid Power Specialist – International Fluid Power Society is preferred.

  • Six Sigma is preferred.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Responsible for providing mechanical and hydraulic engineering support for all Ride & Show systems resort wide daily. Project management of all hydraulic/mechanical system design modifications and fault analysis resort-wide. On call 24/7 to facilitate engineering maintenance support per departmental guidelines.

Required:

  • "Hands-on" experience with automated control mobile equipment systems required.

  • Experience with servo controls as applied to hydraulic, pneumatic, and electromotive motion control systems required.

  • Knowledge of generation of control system specifications, acceptance test procedures.

Preferred:

  • Knowledgeable in ASTM and F24 standards and guidelines.

  • Knowledge in applicable codes, regulations and standards including: AISC, ASME, ASTM, ANSI, AWS, JIC, NEC, and OSHA.

  • Experience in the design of safety critical systems.

  • Knowledge in Hydraulic systems.
