CA BOCES 2024-25 Teacher Assistant (Continuous Recruitment) in Olean, New York

Position: Instructional Staff/Teacher Assistant - for 2024-25 School Year

Location: BOCES - District Wide

Division: Exceptional Education

Basic Function: The teaching assistant provides direct instructional support to students under the general supervision of a certified teacher. The teaching assistant works as a member of a team in the classroom where the teacher has ultimate responsibility for developing and planning the educational program. The teaching assistant has the ability to assume teacher responsibilities.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Perform assigned duties according to the policies, rules, and regulations of the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) and the New York State Department of Education. Comply with all Federal mandates as they apply to students with disabilities.

  • Provide close supervision and take all reasonable precautions to ensure student safety.

  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Assist in instruction ad fulfillment of IEP mandates.

  • Implement established behavior plan(s).

  • Establish a structured learning environment that fosters a positive self-concept and sense of well-being. Use strategies that motivate students to develop sound problem solving and reasoning skills.

  • Establish high standards and expectations for all students for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.

  • Assist teacher in documenting student progress. Share information and maintain regular communication with appropriate classroom teachers to support a congruent effort toward identified goals and objectives.

  • Give students positive feedback that encourages personal responsibility for their educational activities and interpersonal relationships.

  • Assist teacher to help students develop positive work behavior and attitudes.

  • Ensure the confidentiality of privileged information.

  • Promote the proper care of school property, equipment, textbooks, supplies, and other materials. Maintain inventory and account for school resources within assigned classroom(s).

  • Assist teacher in maintaining standards for student conduct and enforcing discipline according to classroom/school policy and the due process rights of students. Employ techniques that motivate students to establish appropriate short and long-term goals. Provide positive reinforcement to acknowledge acceptable behavior. Consistently confront undesirable behavior firmly and fairly.

  • Assist teacher in preparation of assigned classroom at the beginning of the year; inventory equipment and supplies and store at the end of the school year.

  • Participate in faculty meetings and in-service training.

  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and other agencies associated with the school.

Term of Employment: 10-month position

Salary: Starting at $25,011 as per UBTA salary schedule/contract

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of th Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel as defined in the teacher's negotiated agreement with input provided form the teacher of the classroom to which the employee is assigned.

Job Qualifications

Possession or be eligible for NYS Teaching Assistant Certificate.
