Hackensack Meridian Health Senior Research Associate in Nutley, New Jersey

Overview

The Center for Discovery and Innovation (CDI) is seeking a dynamic Senior Research Associate to join its growing anti-infectives drug discovery group. The CDI is an academic translational research institute emphasizing public-private partnerships for the development of novel medical interventions including therapeutics. The CDI hosts a variety of drug development programs including several prominent NIH sponsored national centers of excellence focused on developing novel anti-infectives against high-threat drug resistant bacterial pathogens and pandemic viruses. The Senior Research Associate, CDI will work under the guidance of a Member Scientist, as part of a broader team to support drug discovery goals and objectives, prepare data for presentations, progress reports and actively participate in the preparation of manuscripts and grant applications. In this role, the individual will also work independently and take responsibility for the development and execution of new experimental procedures to successfully advance the research projects.

The CDI was established by Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) as an academic basic and translational research enterprise to rapidly translate science innovation to the clinic and to improve outcomes for patients with cancer, infectious diseases, autoimmune disease and other acute and chronic diseases. The CDI has grown rapidly since its origins in 2019, and now has 32 labs, 190 scientists and allied personnel supported by 60 NIH grants and more than 30 other grants and contracts. Areas of expertise include genomics, epigenetics, drug resistance, stem cell biology, drug discovery, diagnostics and biomarker development, and pharmacology.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Senior Research Associate, CDI at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Conducts research and/or laboratory tasks and experiments under general supervision.

  • Collects, analyzes and interprets data.

  • Creates reports from analysis of initial observations and conclusions.

  • Recommends changes to experimental protocols, design and documentation.

  • Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher level staff.

  • Provides coaching and/or mentoring.

  • Presents findings at national conferences.

  • Publishes results in reputable peer-reviewed journals.

  • Leads, drives and manages projects, including but not limited to communicating with collaborators.

  • Supports grant reporting and writing.

  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required :

  • M.D. or PhD. from an accredited medical school or graduate level institution in a scientific field or other relevant area of study.

  • Minimum of 4 or more years of experience of post-doctoral research or other applicable research experience in a qualified laboratory in academia or industry.

  • Minimum of two peer-reviewed publications from prior work experience.

  • Experience conducting and designing research projects.

  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter.

  • Advanced knowledge of lab specific methodologies and experimental procedures.

  • Ability to conduct independent research.

  • Ability to work effectively within a team.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred :

  • Organization skills with an attention to detail.
