Required Education, Experience, & Skills

Sheetmetal lofts person must be able to complete the following tasks:

Shop Fabrication

  • Be able to fabricate HVAC ventilation

  • Be able to fabricate misc. parts other than ventilation. Such as boxes, pans, joiner bulkhead panels, curtain plate, coaming, lockers

  • Be able to read and understand sketches, NAVSEA and other related drawings for fabrication

  • Be knowledgeable with the following types of sheet metal material: steel, copper nickel, aluminum, galvanize and stainless steel.

  • Be Knowledgeable of shop equipment and use, including safety use

Installation

Be Able to install HVAC ventilation and equipment systems.

Be able to install berthing spaces, including deck coaming, bulkheads, curtain plate, bunks, lockers and any other components related to habitability and berthing

Be able to install galley equipment

Be able to read and understand Prints and drawing.

Be able to install the different types or metal joiner overhead and bulkhead systems

Be able to make HVAC equipment repairs (such as dampers)

Blueprint - Read, understand, interpret general blue prints to preform task required

Sketching

  • Drawing general sketches for ventilation and other Misc. parts to be fabricated

  • Complete some parts of a condition report, with assistance, based on sketches drawn

Begin to cut necessary patterns if required for fabrication

Be able to layout a 90 degree elbow and start to layout other vent fittings

Begin to ship check and sketch vent systems & layout to scale form drawings to meet fabrication needs

Have computer skills and some knowledge of AutoCAD and start layout of HVAC systems and sketches for fabrication.

Have some knowledge of how to cut simple patterns for fabrication

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

High school degree or equivalent (GED), or completion of vocational training (certificate) in a related field.

  1. Six (6) years of related experience, three (3) of which were in the maritime environment.

  2. Must have held the position of loftsperson within the last three (3) years or completed lofting vocational training.

  3. Must have some experience repairing and installing shipboard habitability spaces including: berthing equipment; galley equipment; ventilation ducting (heating and cooling).

  4. Have knowledge of AutoCAD and start layout of HVAC systems and sketches for fabrication. Have some knowledge of how to cut simple patterns for fabrication

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $60902 - $68058

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
