New York is leading the nation in the fight on global climate change and the transition to a clean energy-powered economy. The Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (Climate Act) has created the most aggressive climate change goals in the nation and requires an ambitious agenda that blends proven catalysts with innovative approaches while operating across a broader energy arena that is rapidly evolving. New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) is a driving force in realizing this agenda. NYSERDA works with stakeholders that span residents, business owners, developers, community leaders, local government officials, universities, utilities, investors, entrepreneurs, and more, to develop, invest, and foster conditions that:

  • Attract the private sector capital investment needed to expand New York’s clean energy economy.

  • Overcome barriers to using clean energy at a large-scale in New York.

  • Enable New York’s communities and residents to benefit equitably from energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Job Overview

The HR Generalist sits within NYSERDA’s HR Department but is charged with working with specific programmatic units and teams within NYSERDA to support their HR needs. The person’s activities include, but are not limited to, assisting the units and teams with their recruitment needs, onboarding and offboarding, personnel transactions, performance management, and staff compliance with NYSERDA’s policies and practices. The HR Generalist supports necessary touchpoints and communications, and prepares required HR-related documents and materials to move HR processes for the units and teams along in a timely, thoughtful, and responsible way. The person understands the goals, priorities, business model, and challenges of the units and teams that they support, and acts as a liaison to central HR to ensure that the units and teams adhere to HR standards, while also having their needs met. As their time permits, the HR Generalist role also supports HR-wide initiatives and projects.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Recruitment management and support | Supports the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions. Works with unit and team staff and the HR Team to understand hiring needs, including required skills and competencies; complete the resource request process; prepare job descriptions and job postings; prioritize positions to be filled; ensure that Hiring Managers are equipped to succeed; and assist with candidate recruitment and selection.

  • Implements and facilitates new hire onboarding and partners with assigned programmatic units and teams to assist in the facilitation of orientations.

  • Performs tasks required to execute standard HR responsibilities, including providing assistance with compensation, benefits, and leave, disciplinary matters, and disputes and investigations.

  • Provides support with performance management and learning and development activities for units and teams. Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments.

  • Assists in the handling of employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff. Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations. Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommends best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.

  • Works with the HR Team to support initiatives and projects across all-NYSERDA as assigned.

  • Performs other related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in HR.

  • This position may be asked to travel up to 25% of the time between NYSERDA office locations.
