Harmony Books, a nonfiction imprint of Random House Publishing, seeks an Executive Editor with an expertise and strong interest in publishing books by distinguished authorities and credentialed experts in the categories of wellness, psychology, personal growth and memoir. Harmony is an industry leader in the personal growth and wellness category, with a focus on big ideas, strong concepts and inspiration. Our best-selling authors include Dr. Peter Attia, Deepak Chopra, Gretchen Rubin, Arianna Huffington, Lisa Genova, Rosalind Wiseman, and Tim Ferris.

Our ideal candidate will: Acquire, edit and position approximately 8-10 nonfiction titles a year. The candidate would identify and amplify trends in the marketplace, publishing books from a wide variety of voices that speak to current readers and their interests, and that align with Harmony’s focus on helping to inspire and teach readers to change their lives. The Editor will have a strong history of acquiring books in the broader wellness marketplace, as well as a collaborative approach to working with authors, agents and the in-house publishing team. The Editor will be fully involved in the publishing process, from submissions through production and publication.

The Role:

• Soliciting, acquiring, and editing books for publication.

• Reading with other Editors as they assess projects, as needed.

• Working with the publicity, marketing, art, and sales teams to package and position books.

• Acting as the in-house liaison between editorial and the production, design, art, and managing editorial departments, as well as the sales, marketing, and publicity teams.

• Communicating with authors and agents in all phases of the publishing process, from acquisition to publish date.

• Effectively representing own list as well as the imprint to media, booksellers, foreign publishers, literary organizations, and other out-of-house contacts beyond authors and agents.

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and deadline-driven with a minimum of 8-10 years of editorial experience and a keen interest in health, wellness, lifestyle, and prescriptive non-fiction books. Self-motivated and independent, this person will contribute actively as part of a small and highly collaborative team.

The Essentials:

• Minimum of 8-10 years of publishing experience in editorial acquisitions for a general trade publisher

• Strong editing capabilities

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills

• Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to negotiate with authors and agents

• Proven ability to set priorities under pressure and multi-task effectively

• Excellent attention to detail

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams, etc.

The salary range for this position is $100,000-$125,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
