Description

In addition to normal tutoring responsibilities, this position provides support for the college’s embedded tutoring program, assists with the creation of supplemental tutoring materials and supports tutoring for standardized testing, including placement assessments. This position also provides general tutoring services, assisting the college’s diverse population of students with stronger comprehension of course content. Tutors will provide small group and individual tutorial assistance for existing course curriculum. Tutors also aid in the development of students’ self-esteem, learning, study strategies, and critical thinking skills. Tutors will work with students to identify their areas of strength and help students to take accountability for their educational choices and actions.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

This position provides support for the college’s embedded tutoring program, assists with the creation of supplemental tutoring materials and supports tutoring for standardized testing, including placement assessments. Additionally, course tutoring includes, but is not limited to, reviewing class materials, writing assistance, discussing text, or working on solutions to problems in Mathematics, English, Science, or Social Sciences. Tutoring is designed as a supplement to regular classroom instruction so Tutors must be knowledgeable about the content of specific subjects to assist students in increasing their academic skills and understanding.

Tutor II responsibilities include the following:

  • Serve as embedded tutor in courses with content expertise and provide supplemental instruction as assigned.

  • Assisting students preparing for standardized exams such as RCBC’s placement test, Praxis, CLEP, or others

  • Assisting with running the Tutoring Center check-in desk, as assigned

  • Researching or creating supplemental materials for use by the Tutoring Center

  • Assisting students with course content and problem-solving

  • Assisting with in-class and center activities

  • Providing individual and group tutoring

  • Assist with coordination with faculty to organize and facilitate study groups and review sessions

  • Hosting workshops on specific study skills or comprehension strategies

  • Supporting learning and study skills development

  • Answering questions regarding the BlackBoard and ALEKs course site, due dates, and course requirements

  • Assist with Retention Alert resolution and provide outreach to students who have missed classes, tutoring sessions or who may be struggling

  • Other duties as assigned

The primary and most important overall responsibility of all employees is to provide service in a pleasant, helpful, and effective manner to our students and other members of the College community.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Required: Associate’s degree or above

Experience Preferred: At least one year of experience tutoring college-level courses.

This posting will be used to obtain a pool of qualified candidates for this position. As tutoring needs arise, these applications will be reviewed for possible interviews The number of tutors hired varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the students. Your application can remain on file for up to 12 months.
