Senior EHS&S Manager is responsible for the daily operation of the Company Environmental, Safety, Security and Workers' Compensation functions and the formulation, implementation, and administration of policies, best practices, and business goals related to these areas. Budget responsibility for all safety initiatives, OSHA compliance and Workers’ Compensation Claims. Directs the activities of the Regional Safety Coordinators, the Safety Manager and the Workers' Compensation Coordinator.


  • Manages all internal and external loss control activities related to safety.

  • Establish best in class Safety Policies, Programs and Procedures.

  • Develop a cost-effective, realistic safety strategy that fosters a safe work environment thereby reducing the incidence and severity of workplace injuries.

  • Provide training that reduce frequency and severity of safety incidents.

  • Develop and deploy behavior based safety programs.

  • Oversee the review and inspection of facilities with a focus on workplace safety, near miss analysis and compliance.

  • Provide loss prevention data to the Management Team identifying trends and appropriate techniques to avoid exposures to reduce frequency and severity of claims.

  • Submit periodic reports and recommendations to the Management Team on loss prevention/safety results.

  • Develop consistent workable procedures for field accident and near miss investigations.

  • Develop and direct a root cause incident avoidance program.


  • Develop and maintain policies to ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations.

  • Train leadership teams, plant employees and field crews on safety compliance.

  • Interact with regulatory agencies on an as-needed basis.

  • Act as administrative liaison for all environmental regulatory agency inspections and surveys.

  • Audit status of current environmental issues and develop or modify action plans as conditions warrant.

  • Maintain working knowledge of developing environmental issues.

  • Develop and maintain a companywide environmental compliance program.

  • Develop and lead HAZMAT program.

  • Lead team in the training of employees on environmental programs.

  • Design and oversee process modifications, upgrades and improvements to environmental operations.

  • Work directly with Design and Build function to ensure compliance with safety or environmental issues including complying with industry standards.

  • Through regional Safety Coordinators, develop proactive site safety processes.


  • Direct all Workers' Compensation/Loss Control activities, including claims reporting, investigation and disposition through the WC Coordinator.

  • Review, audit or establish formalized claims service standards with Carriers/TPA's.

  • Evaluate adequacy and efficiency of existing standards.

  • Identify best practices and provide suggested standards to document/improve claims processing with a focus on cost control.

  • Monitor, audit and direct claim services provided by Carriers/TPA's.

  • Review loss runs, reserves, and establish/conduct periodic meetings to review status of open claims.

  • Proactively Manage Open Claims.

  • Develop a comprehensive plan of action to resolve claims in a timely and cost-efficient manner.

  • Monitor litigation and subrogation activity.

  • Refine light duty and return to work (RTW) programs to focus on "real" cost control.


  • Establish and maintain security policies and procedures.

  • Contract and manage TPA security providers.

  • Coordinate with local public safety officers on any appropriate security violations.

  • Audit and ensure all security equipment is functional.

  • Secure Capital Funds to support security initiatives when needed.

  • Lead the facilities function in maintenance and security.

  • The incumbent in this position directly supervises 3 staff.


  • B.S. Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Business or Human Resources, or a combination of education and experience, that includes a minimum of five (5) years of related experience in corporate safety roles.

  • Demonstrated exceptional organizational skills.

  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills and organizational acuity in a complex organizational structure

  • Solid demonstrated written communication skills

  • Verbal acuity


  • Master’s in Business Administration or advanced degree in Safety a minimum of five (5) years of related experience and/or training

  • Demonstrated expertise in related fields

  • Expert level competency of the job functions

  • Proficient PC user with intermediate skills with MS Office programs.
