Capella Education Company UX Designer in Minneapolis, Minnesota

The UX Designer establishes the experience and design for the customer's online experience at Capella University. This individual will partner with key functional groups to deliver design assets, UX visuals, and assist in the front-end implementation of web pages and applications. This position reports to the Sr. Manager of Online User Experience, whose team has responsibility for the strategic development, production, design and analysis of Capella University's online experience. Responsibilities Translate business objectives and end-user needs into design strategies. Apply user-centered design principles to the creation of user interfaces and information architecture. Create innovative information display paradigms and navigation methods. Coordinate, lead, and document results for usability studies on large sites Work with broader Online Products and User Experience department to develop and implement cross-functional processes that improve customer satisfaction and create company-wide understanding of the impact of various initiatives Partner with others to improve editorial, graphical, and content standards for the highest possible quality, navigational ease, consistency, and content architecture Conceptualize and facilitate implementation of personalized site experiences and decision tools for learners, prospective learners, faculty, alumni, and staff Work with Product Management to recommend and implement visual solutions for the benefit of key support groups within the organization; will also identify cross-project opportunities (similar features that require a holistic approach) Partner with designers, BAs, and front-end developers on feasibility of solutions Follows FED standards, guidelines, and processes while conferring with management on complex issues Ensure that content on the website is accessible to all groups including those with disabilities Follow existing UI patterns when possible and work with team to develop new patterns when needed Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent combination Experience: 4+ years in any combination of internet and communication roles Ability to turn concepts into working prototypes Solid knowledge of information architecture, site navigation, browser limitations, solutions for cross-browser compatibility, and usability engineering Proficiency with web technology, online self-service, online learning, social networking, Accessibility and general technology trends Experience with personalization and content management Knowledge of prevalent standards, including: HTML5, CSS, Flash, JavaScript, JSP, AJAX Knowledge of source control systems; SVN, GIT and TFS Experience working in a variety of project methodologies; agile, waterfall, iterative Knowledge of common code design patterns, design principles and industry best practices Experience with mobile app development and responsive web design Knowledge of WCAG 2.0 accessibility web development Proficient in several applications (Dreamweaver, Visio, Photoshop, Sketch, prototyping software, etc.) Online portfolio Strong presentation and communication skills Ability to balance multiple demands and a proven track record of meeting deadlines Job Location Capella University Capella Tower 225 S. 6th St., 9th Floor Minneapolis, MN 55402 This is an on-site position located at Capella's downtown Minneapolis headquarters.
