Minnesota Visiting Nurse Agency Facilities Maintenance/Operations Engineer Intern in Minneapolis, Minnesota

_SUMMARY_ We are currently seeking a Facilities Maintenance/Operations Engineer Intern to join our Facilities team. This temporary position (lasting 1 year) will work part-time (0.8 FTE) weekdays on-site.

Purpose of this Position:Under direction, an employee in this job class will be training under a Facilities Maintenance/Operations Engineer in performing work of moderate difficulty in the operations and maintenance on a wide range of complex MEP - Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing equipment with an emphasis on HVAC/R - Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration equipment. This job class will also perform a wide variety of other moderately difficult operational tasks including building/structural, welding/fabrication, and general maintenance work tasks as required.

_RESPONSIBILITIES_

During the Internship the Facilities Maintenance/Operations Engineer Intern will learn skills associated with Healthcare Facilities Operations including HVAC/R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration); Electrical – Emergency Generators, Motors, and Distribution; Plumbing – Layouts and General Repair; Medical Gases – Piped and Bottled; Pneumatic Tube Systems; Compliance – NFPA, Joint Commission, and MDH; Fire Systems; and more by training with Facilities Maintenance/Operations Engineers and Trade staff in daily duties of Operations.

  • Train under a Facilities Maintenance/Operations Engineer in operations and maintenance of all building systems: HVAC pneumatic and direct digital controls, BAS and VAV systems, A/C units, cooling towers, compressors, emergency electrical power generators, physical heating and cooling plant circulating pumps, ventilation units, refrigeration units, exhaust systems, steam PRV stations, and all other related physical plant equipment
  • Train under a Facilities Maintenance/Operations Engineer in operation, maintenance, and response to pneumatic tube transportation system issues
  • Train under a Facilities Maintenance/Operations Engineer in operation, maintenance, and response to medical and industrial gases systems: medical air, medical vacuum, oxygen, nitrous oxide, nitrogen, carbon dioxide and welding gas issues
  • Train under a Facilities Maintenance/Operations Engineer in first responder duties for urgent customer requests, life safety, fire, and physical plant system alarm conditions
  • Train under a Facilities Maintenance/Operations Engineer in maintenance procedures and to perform assigned preventive maintenance and corrective repair assignments
  • Train under a Facilities Maintenance/Operations Engineer in managing heavy equipment and supplies
  • Read HVAC/Refrigeration control schematics, and mechanical blueprints
  • Perform tasks on portable ladders at varying heights and navigate congested mechanical environments
  • Train under a Facilities Maintenance/Operations Engineer in maintaining supplies, tool inventory and cleaning

_QUALIFICATIONS_ /Minimum Qualifications:/

  • Enrollment in an approved Technical School HVAC/R Program

/Preferred Qualifications:/

  • Enrollment in the Second Year of an approved Technical School HVAC/R Program or a recent graduate of an approved Technical School HVAC/R Program

/Preferred License/Certifications:/

  • EPA Universal Refrigeration License and Minnesota Special Boilers License or ability to obtain

/Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:/

  • Must be able to learn skills in MEP – Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing troubleshooting service and repairs; with an emphasis on HVAC/R - Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration troubleshooting service and repairs
  • Must be able to learn skills in HVAC pneumatic, direct digital controls associated with energy management systems, in maintenance and repair of building automation systems
  • Must be able to learn pneumatic tube transportation systems
  • Must be able to learn to read and interpret pneumatic and electric schematics, building blueprints and technical manuals
  • Must be able to develop and maintain effective working relationships in an organized labor large crew environment necessary
  • Must be able to orally communicate effectively with customers and to complete written work orders
