Description:

This individual is responsible to plan and implement habilitative/rehabilitative programs for individuals who exhibit speech/language/swallowing problems.

Position Purpose:

This individual is responsible to plan and implement habilitative/rehabilitative programs for individuals who exhibit speech/language/swallowing problems.

What you will Do:

  • Plans, directs, evaluates and conducts habilitative and rehabilitative programs to treat speech, language and/or swallowing disorders

  • Prepares written reports of diagnostic findings, intervention techniques used, progress made and follow-up status in a timeframe according to policy and procedure.

  • Develops treatment plans, directs, supervises and treats patients/caregiver in accordance with treatment plan.

  • Consults and communicates with patient, family, providers and nursing staff. Assist multidisciplinary team with discharge planning and establishes home therapy programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master’s degree in the area of Speech/Language Pathology

Experience:

  • Must have demonstrated competence in an acute and outpatient patient care settings for at least one year

  • CFY supervision is available for those with no experience

Special Skills and Competencies:

  1. Current licensure from the Iowa Department of Public Health

  2. Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association is desirable.

  3. Special aptitudes include tact, understanding and compassion and ability to communicate well with other professionals, patients and their families, both verbal and written.

  • Must provide proof of Basic Life Support ( BLS Provider -American Heart Association or Professional Rescuer-American Red Cross) prior to employment or within 30 days of hire and maintains current status.

  • Must provide proof of Mandatory Reporting for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse training prior to employment or within 6 months of hire and maintain current status per State of Iowa guidelines
