Manchester School District School Bus Driver in Manchester, New Hampshire

Position Title: School Bus Driver Starting Range: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour Reports To: Transportation Coordinator or Director

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be 18 years of age and have possessed a valid (regular) drivers license for a minimum of two years.
  • Have a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a passenger (P) Endorsement and a School Bus (S) Endorsement with Air Brake Certification.
  • Have a School Bus Driver Certificate from the State of New Hampshire.
  • Have or be willing to obtain basic first aid training and CPR certification.
  • Pass all Criminal History Checks.
  • Possess a USDOT Medical Certification
  • Pass a Manchester School District pre-employment physical examination, along with a pre-employment drug and alcohol screenings.
  • Pass random drug and alcohol screenings through the Manchester School District. Be able to pass post-accident and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing as applicable.
  • Have a clean driving record.
  • Have no previous license suspension(s) for drug or alcohol related offenses.
  • Ability to listen and understand information.
  • Ability to communicate information so others will understand it.
  • Citizenship, residency or work Visa in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of school bus driving experience.
  • Familiarity with roadways within the City of Manchester, NH and surrounding communities.

Specific Core Function: A school bus driver improves student achievement by transporting students safely to and from school, and school-related activities. The driver ensures the school bus is in safe operating condition, manages student behavior and enforces rules, regulations, policies and laws to ensure students safety during loading, transport and unloading. A school bus driver is responsible for safely and professionally operating a school bus over an assigned route in all types of weather conditions including but not limited to heat, cold, rain, hail, sleet, snow, ice and fog. A school bus driver is responsible to abide by all the rules and regulations as provided by school policies and local, state and federal governmental agencies. A driver will work with students, parents, staff, colleagues and others in a courteous and respectful manner.

Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Operate a school bus safely and professionally.
  • Pick up and deliver students as per set route and schedule.
  • Obey all traffic laws.
  • Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
  • Be attentive to traffic and weather conditions while staying on schedule and ensuring the safety of passengers.
  • Transport only authorized students.
  • Pick up and discharge students only at authorized stops.
  • Check bus seats and floor, including under seats, for students after each trip.

Specified Length/Hours of Position: 185 school days including up to 10 additional days for training, and preparation.
