As a Principal Engineer in the Developer Acceleration pillar you will play a pivotal role in shaping the delivery of tooling and developer platform solutions. Our value stream plays a crucial role in ensuring a seamless and efficient experience for developers across our organization. As a Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for owning and leading key aspects of our developer platform, with a primary focus on GitHub, including source management and Actions workflows, CI/CD platforms, and overall developer experience. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our development ecosystem and fostering a culture of innovation and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

GitHub:

• In partnership with other Value Stream leadership, lead the strategic vision and development roadmap for use of GitHub throughout all of UKG

• Collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure GitHub is optimized for the unique needs of our developers

• Drive the adoption of best practices for source code management, collaboration and code review

CI/CD Platforms:

• Partnering with the Developer Platform Value stream, help drive the future of CI/CD platforms for all of UKG Engineering

• Provide automated utilities to aid service teams in migrating to GitHub Actions for their CI/CD pipelines

• Evaluate and integrate new tools and technologies to enhance automation and efficiency

• Design and build out a runner solution for all of engineering to use in conjunction with GitHub Actions

Developer Experience:

• Advocate for exceptional developer experience across the organization

• Work closely with product teams to understand and address developer pain points

• Champion initiatives to improve documentation, onboarding processes and overall usability

• Create platform solutions to scale developer experience and deliver on your passion for infrastructure as code and automation

Technical Leadership:

• Provide technical leadership to a geographically distributed team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovate environment

• Mentor and guide team members in adopting best practices and staying current with industry trends

• Participate in architectural discussions and decisions to ensure scalability, reliability and security

This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days/week in the office in our Lowell, MA office

Qualifications

Basic qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Principal Engineer or similar role with a focus on developer platforms

• In-depth, hands-on expertise in GitHub including source code management, administration, GitHub Actions, Runner management and more

• Strong programming and scripting skills (python, typescript, etc.)

• Excellent understanding of software development lifecycle and best practices

• Working experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible)

• Strong background in infrastructure and public cloud, ideally GCP.

• Experience with agile development methodologies

• Experience working in a globally distributed environment

Preferred qualifications:

• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross functional teams

• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) preferred

• Familiarity with DevSecOps principles and practices

• BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
