Los Alamos National Laboratory Research Library Undergraduate Student in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Research Library at the Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks an undergraduate student to support library projects. The Research Library delivers essential knowledge services in support of the Laboratory's mission to solve national security challenges through scientific excellence. We do this by hiring highly talented people who deliver outstanding service.

Activities may include assisting Research Library customers online and in-person, quality control and metadata creation on scanned reports and other duties as assigned.

LANL's Undergraduate Student (UGS) Program offers paid summer and year-round internships for undergraduate students. The program provides mentoring, hands-on experience, and professional development opportunities that complement the student's chosen area of study.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in at least 12 semester credit hours (or full-time equivalent). Entering freshmen must provide documentation of acceptance into an undergraduate degree program.

  • Must currently have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).

  • Attention to detail and quality of work.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to use library databases, websites, and other resources to assist customers.

  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Proficiency in using office productivity software, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.,

Education/Experience:

Position requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED and either admittance or active enrollment in an undergraduate program.

Desired Qualifications:

Demonstrated commitment to customer-centered library service.

  • Experience working in a research library and/or formal training in a scientific field.

  • Experience processing library materials

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management. Where You Will Work

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law.
