Responsibilities

Performs ultrasound exams on patients according to the specific departmental procedure protocols under the direction of the Medical Director; Provides patient orientation, procedure explanation, and pre and post diagnostic care to completion of test. Performs complete diagnostic imaging test inclusive of positioning patient, equipment management, and documentation of findings.

ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Performs ultrasound exams on patients according to the specific departmental procedure protocols under the direction of the Medical Director.

  2. Prepares equipment ensuring that it is operational, safe and functioning according to diagnostic standards.

  3. Problem‐solves equipment failure and imaging quality and contacts service representative or CES regarding equipment problems.

  4. Ensures that daily equipment and room maintenance are performed before/during/ after each procedure, and that special precautions and measures are performed to ensure infection control standards.

  5. Completes all quality checks and Ensures that equipment logs are maintained.

  6. Completes all clinical supply inventories, ensuring that each diagnostic room is complete with the necessary supplies required to perform the procedure.

  7. Demonstrates competency in PACS process and Performs the daily QA process.

  8. Actively Participates with patient testing, performing routine, non‐routine, urgent, and emergent patient exams.

  9. Communicates with Patient Transportation, Nursing Units, Physician Offices, and other diagnostic areas to ensure that the patients receive their diagnostic procedures in a smooth, efficient and safe manner

  10. Performs portable examinations (when applicable) at the bedside to ensure patient safety as well as provide immediate diagnostic testing when needed.

  11. Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.

  12. Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to Accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.

  13. Analyses sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information with medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician.

  14. Assumes responsibility for the safety, emotional and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographers care.

  15. Assists with the daily operations of the ultrasound suite.

  16. Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations.

  17. Maintains a daily log of patient’s seen/ completes exam‐billing forms.

  18. Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area, and Maintains adequate supplies.

  19. Participates in the maintenance of the ultrasound accreditation.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Required:

  • Associate’s Degree preferred

  • Active certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or ARRT

  • CPR/BLS certification with American Heart Association

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Good alpha/numeric dexterity and handwriting skills.

  • Interpersonal skills for communication with patients, visitors, physicians and other hospital personnel.

  • Must have good written and oral communication skills.

Pay Range

$26.38 - $38.26 /hour
