Job Purpose

The Cloud Platform Operations Engineer is responsible for automation, operations, and integration of cloud-native and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) technologies, delivering cloud migration projects, and tracking and visualizing the costs of the cloud environment. The Cloud Operation Engineer will create complex business configurations, design and respond to real-time monitoring, audit and align to security controls, and support delivery of new capabilities by delivery teams. Cloud Operation Engineers will self-train and train others on new and emerging technologies and stay current on ever evolving cloud-native and SaaS technology landscape.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Researches new cloud technologies to deliver on business needs.

  • Recommends minimum requirements for cloud technologies including aspects of security, availability, and cost management.

  • Reviews project backlog and strategic goals, analyzing existing cloud platforms for fit-for-purpose opportunities.

  • Creates automation and reusable code to integrate monitoring, alerting, and logging technologies to meet organizational objectives across all teams.

  • Implements automated cost control solutions, including tracking, budget alerting, auto-scaling, and environment consolidation.

  • Manages data governance and DLP policies, including allowed and unallowed connectors or integration points.

  • Manages feature review and enablement using internal technology and privacy review procedures.

  • Provides L3/L4 escalation support for new development and issue resolution of cloud platforms in all environments, development through production.

  • Stays current with cloud technologies and industry trends, training consistently to deliver strategic business value and reduce costs.

  • Operationalization of cloud platforms.

  • Provides scheduled on-call and alternate hours escalation coverage as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Detail oriented, able to follow and update written documentation.

  • Employs problem analysis skills and demonstrates a passion for finding permanent solutions for recurring issues.

  • Ability to effectively communicate technical issues, both verbally and in writing.

  • Exceptional internal customer relationship skills and desire to help others succeed.

  • Experience in Power Automate product on the Microsoft Power Platform.

  • Demonstrated basic programming skills in at least one high level structured programming language, such as Java, Python, C#/.NET, or C/C++, OR demonstrated highly skilled in block-coding technologies such as Scratch.

  • Demonstrated scripting skills in a system automation language such as Bash, Perl, Python, or PowerShell.

  • Database experience with at least one of MS SQL Server, Oracle DB, DB2, and working knowledge of SQL for use with configuration management and reporting.

  • Experience with monitoring technologies such as Nagios or Azure Monitor.

  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline, Azure DevOps, or GitHub.

  • Experience with Configuration Management tools such as Terraform, Puppet, Chef, Amazon OpWorks, RedHat Ansible, Jenkins Docker, Azure Update Management and Templates.

  • Experience with Agile development methodologies and ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a face-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of networking including: Cloud networking concepts (e.g. NSG, APN), Software defined networks (SFE, CCE, Orchestration, vXLAN, NFV), Routing Protocols (RIP, OSPF, ISIS, BGP), IP services (TCP/IP, DNS), Security (ACLs, firewalls, WAF).

  • Ability to use a variety of open-source technologies and cloud services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar degree required.

  • 5+ years related IT experience, with at least 3 year in IT infrastructure/operations role or similar position required.

  • 3+ certifications in public cloud technologies such as, Power Platform Developer Associate, Power Platform Functional Consultant, Power Platform Fundamentals, Power Platform RPA Developer Associate, Power Platform Solution Architect Expert.

  • 3+ years in IT infrastructure/operations role or related position preferred.

  • Cloud or Platform Engineer role or related position preferred.

  • Experience in a software development role preferred.
