With operations going back to 1861, we boast a remarkably long history of success in the Minnesota aggregate and asphalt industry.Position OverviewA Roller Operator will be responsible for operating machines to spread, smooth, level, compact Asphalt and gravel to job specifications. Drives heavy roling machine to compact earth fills. subgrade, streets, and runways. Moves levers, depresses pedals, turns handwheels, and pushes throttle to control and guide machine. Drives machine in successive overlapping passes over survace to be compacted. Determines direction speed and direction of machine, based on knowledge of compressibility of material under changing temperatures, so that ridges are not formed by excessive pressure. Operate tamping machines or manually roll surfaces to compact earth fills, foundation forms, and finished road materials, according to grade specifications. Operators will be asked to do other duties associated with paving crews as part of a team operations.Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)Roll asphalt or gravel to meet expected compactionFollow recommended rolling patterns to achieve maximum density.Establish best practices to maximize density incentives on projects.Required to be a team player and work closely with other members to achieve strong results.Operate water trucks to refill equipment.Inspect, clean, maintain, and repair equipment, using mechanics' hand tools, or report malfunctions to supervisors.Set up and tear down equipment.Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.Other duties as may be assigned.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/ExperienceMinimum of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.Minimum of 1 year experience and/or training in a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Work RequirementsMust be 18 years in age or older.Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.Must possess a valid driver's license.CDL preffered but not required.Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary; some overnight travel may be required.Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.
