The Environmental Assessment Program *within the Department of Ecology is looking to fill a *6PPD Monitoring Field Lead (Natural Resource Scientist 2) position. This position is located* in our *Headquarters Office in* Lacey, WA.{rel="nofollow"} Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station. 6PPD-quinone is a toxic chemical lethal to coho salmon and capable of contaminating water systems. In this exciting position, you will help develop and implement monitoring approaches to better characterize 6PPD-quinione and other related tire contaminants in the environment through the collection of stormwater and future collection of sediment and tissue samples. You will work alongside a strong, passionate team of environmental scientists in the Environmental Assessment Program's Toxics Studies Unit. The data collected will aid researchers in understanding the fate and transport of 6PPD in the ecosystem, provide environmental baseline conditions for planners and engineers making recommendations and helping mitigation efforts, and support policy makers in phasing out 6PPD-quinone from tire manufacturing. You will also have opportunities to help the Toxic Studies Unit conduct environmental monitoring work statewide, primarily in freshwater ecosystems via watercraft.       *Agency Mission: *Ecology's mission is to protect, preserve and enhance the environment for current and future generations.  *

* * *Program Mission: *The mission of the Environmental Assessment Program (EAP) is to measure, assess, and communicate environmental conditions in Washington state. EAP is the lead for applied environmental science within Ecology. This position is specifically part of EAP's Statewide Coordination Section and Toxics Studies Unit.

Please Note: This is a project position that is currently funded until June 30, 2025. The position may be extended if additional funding for the next biennium is provided by the legislature. 

Tele-work options for this position: *This position will be eligible for up to an 80% tele-work schedule when not conducting fieldwork, with the expectation of being in the office a minimum of one day per week. *Applicants with questions about position location options, tele-work, and flexible or compressed schedules are encouraged to reach out to the contact person listed below in "other information." Schedules are dependent upon position needs and are subject to change.
